For several years my Dutch wife and I have been wintering in Thailand for about 4 months. We are both retired, so 65 + and apply for a NON-immigrant “O” together at the Thai consulate.

We, my husband and I, have always had a 3 month visa. Even if we went half a year. We then went back to the Netherlands in the meantime and then arranged a 3-month visa again. We actually want to change that to a one-year visa and no longer going home in the meantime. Now we have heard that you can also arrange a year visa in Thailand itself. We just hear different stories about this. To the immigration (for us that is Pattaya Jomtien) or to the Austrian consulate (Thai Garden Pattaya).

I understand (from TB Immigration Info Brief 040/20) that in addition to Baht 800.000 in a local bank, another Bath 65.000 per month (or Baht 780.000 per year) must be deposited into a local bank account to get a retirement visa. My question concerns the last (annual) deposit, which must come from our joint overseas savings account (in Singapore) (as we do not receive a pension) and which is linked to our joint local savings account in Chiang Mai, in order to survive here.

I am Belgian and I have an annual visa. Is this sufficient to obtain a residence permit on the basis that I am prepared to deregister in Belgium in order to settle permanently in Thailand (Register at the Belgian embassy)?

Sorry Ronny, I may not have passed it on to you correctly, but I do have 1.660 euros. Whatever I read, can stay here with a Thai ID card? Yes, we will listen to the mayor in Ban Pphae tomorrow.

The question I have probably corresponds to the question of many others: What happens to the annual visa if you are not or cannot be in Thailand around the renewal date?

I have a difference of opinion with my Thai wife. My Dutch brother-in-law has been living in Thailand (Kantang) with my sister-in-law for about 8 years on the basis of marriage. She has 3 children from a Thai man. I thought I read here that if the Thai partner dies early, you can stay until the annual visa expires.

I have a Non O multiple entry visa, just like last year. Normally I have to do a border run, around May 28, to Myanmar, via Kantanaburi. Is it true that I don't have to do anything until the end of July? Just wait for new regulation from the government, without risking an “overstay” fine?

Questioner: Arie I was in Belgium when Thailand was locked down. On the one hand, a blessing in disguise, I can take care of my old parents here so that they don't have to leave the house. On the other hand, I still pay the monthly rent (which has been adjusted in the meantime), but it ends on August 1. My retirement visa expires at the end of May. Am I now considered an ordinary tourist or is there for …

Today 29/04 went to Tha Yang for the annual visa extension. All papers taken except the yellow address book (forgotten). I do have a pink farang id card and it was accepted for my address. The immigration office was split in two. Part outside, the main house for the 90 days and address changes, inside for the extension, I was alone there.

I have been living in Thailand for several years on a non-immigrant O visa, (retirement). At the end of June I have to renew my residence permit for another year. The previous two times I used the combination method, (income and money in the bank), with all necessary copies of course.

My Non-O visa expires on June 9. My 'Permission to Stay' (90 days) is until May 2nd. It is my understanding, of course, that there is no need to file a 90-day notification until July 31. My plan was to apply for an Extension of Stay in Chaeng Wattana – with the necessary papers in hand, of course. But when is the best time to do that?

On April 27, I went to Immigration Chiang Rai for the annual extension of my stay (as of May 18), a re-entry permit and the 90-day report. In view of the temporary 'amnesty' I – in theory – could possibly have waited until the end of July, but since I hope to travel back to NL before then, I simply reported in time for the formalities.
