Embassy land drives land prices in Bangkok up sharply
Former embassy buildings in Bangkok have shaken up the capital's real estate market. The sale of prime locations from the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, and the Netherlands, among others, drove up land prices in the city center significantly and paved the way for multi-billion dollar projects. As a result, the sale of the Dutch embassy on Wireless Road now carries extra weight.
The Dutch government is investigating the sale of the embassy complex on Wireless Road, one of the most expensive locations in the Thai capital. The land is said to be worth approximately a quarter of a billion euros, but it is precisely this financial lure that fuels the resistance. As a result, the discussion revolves not only around money, but also around accessibility, history, and diplomatic presence.
