We're going to Ubon Ratchathani!
If you are looking for something other than white sand beaches, busy city life or jungle trekking in Thailand, then a trip to the city and province of Ubon Ratchathani is a good choice. The province is the easternmost province of Thailand, bordering Cambodia to the south and bounded by the Mekong River to the east.

Music from Isaan: Luk Thung
What certainly stands out when you watch TV in Thailand is the sometimes typical Isan music. It seems a bit complaining. The music style I am referring to is 'Luk Thung' and comes from the Thai pleng Luk Thung. Loosely translated it means: 'song of a child of the fields'.
About a watchful dog and a sleeping princess
In many mythical places in Thailand one can find strange, often fabulous rock formations that stimulate the imagination. A large number of these bizarre, strange phenomena can be discovered in Sam Phan Bok, which is also - and in my opinion not entirely wrong - called the Grand Canyon of Thailand.
Two-color river at Khong Chiam in Ubon Ratchathani
A blog reader friend recently gave me a nice tip to visit the village of Khong Chiam in the far east of Ubon Ratchathani province. The town is located on the Mekong River, exactly where the Thai River Mun flows into it.
Hospital visit
Although the Thai does not really differ much from the Dutch, you sometimes experience something in Thailand that you will not easily experience in the Netherlands. Today:
Isan women, the raw reality (part 1)
Some readers of this blog think that Isaan and its inhabitants are romanticized too much. I like that romance myself, but this time the raw reality. I will, however, limit myself to those Isan women who have no contact with farangs, except for the writer of course. Not because I want to oppose those women who do have contacts, but because I know too little about that group of women. I leave it to the reader to judge whether or not there are differences between the two groups, if that distinction is allowed to be made. Today part 1.
Follow-up flight
Although the Thai does not really differ much from the average Dutch person, you sometimes experience something in Thailand that you will not easily experience in the Netherlands. That's what this series of stories is about. Today: Continuation flight
Looking at houses from readers (24)
This is our home in Ubon Ratchathani. One morning, 3 years ago, I went for a walk in the neighborhood where my wife lives today. I came across a new project there and browsed through the 'shell construction' finished houses.
"In the sweat of your brow you shall eat bread"
In the sweat of your brow you shall eat bread. That was true in the Netherlands and still is true for many people in Thailand. Even if it's not about bread, but about rice.

Thailand question: CarParking at Ubon Ratchathani Airport?
I have a question about the CarParking at Ubon Ratchathani Airport. I read that parking is only allowed for a short time in this parking lot, so no overnight stay.
Now we want to park the car long stay for the duration of approx. 2 weeks. Is that also allowed here for a fee, I read conflicting messages about this?

Does anyone have an idea of the current prices of arable land in Ubon Ratchathanie region? About 20 to 30 km outside the city. An initial contact with the owner gave us a target price. Now that we show interest, the man suddenly has another idea and the price rises. Presumably because he found out that the daughter is with a Farang… 🙂
Drinking wine in a restaurant in Isaan
Despite the fact that I fell through the basket as a wine connoisseur last time when I wrote something about wine, I will not let myself stop writing something about wine again. This time about drinking wine in restaurants in Isaan.
