Seasonal flu hits Thailand: nearly 1 million sick

Thailand's Department of Disease Control (DDC) reports an alarming rise in seasonal flu cases, with more than 970.000 affected this year. This number is three times higher than the same period last year, and the prevalent H1N1 strain persists. Experts call on risk groups to get vaccinated and take urgent measures.

Flu vaccination prevents flu virus infections but does not affect the total number of people with flu-like symptoms. This is the conclusion of a study conducted by RIVM, in collaboration with the Spaarne Gasthuis and the Streeklab Kennermerland, into flu-like symptoms among healthy people aged 60 and older living at home.
