Moneymaker Maya Bay 'The Beach' is being refurbished
Phi Phi Leh's world-famous beach, Maya Bay, is getting a makeover. The beach and the bay have attracted so many tourists that it will close for 2 years to recover from the damage that mass tourism has done to nature.
Maya Bay, which is immensely popular with tourists and day trippers, will remain closed to the public for at least another two years. In June 2018, Maya Bay closed to allow the flora and fauna to recover from the damage caused by mass tourism. The beach attracted 5.000 tourists a day.
Hua Hin city officials will meet with beach restaurant operators next Wednesday to persuade them to lower the outrageous prices for food and beach chair rentals.
