Sweet memories
Was browsing through my photo collection on my computer today and came across some photos that put a smile on my face.
The street where we live
When Mieke started her education at the Fotovakschool in 2009, one of her first assignments was to make a photo series entitled “the street in which I live.” That was easier said than done, because there was one farm on the Touwbaan in Maashees. At the back of the yard was the small house where we lived and then you would have had it with the residents. Just past the farm, the Touwbaan became a dirt road and on both sides of it were plots that belonged to a tree nursery. In the end, they became the backdrop for the photo series.
Hua Lamphong, the central train station in Bangkok, brings back warm memories for me. In some time the role of this station will be played out. Nothing is permanent and that is a pity….
Unique photos of war graves in Thailand
On 15 August, the Dutch dead of the Second World War in Southeast Asia will be commemorated at the military cemetery in Kanchanaburi. On the occasion of this commemoration, Lung Jan publishes a number of unique photos taken shortly after the Second World War in Thailand of military cemeteries, which have long since been cleared, where the victims of the construction of the infamous Burma railway were buried. This historically very important photographic material comes from the enormously rich and publicly released collection of the Australian War Memorial (AWM).
24 hours Nana (Photos)
Nana is a neighborhood off Sukhumvit Soi 4, especially famous or perhaps notorious for its nightlife. The presence of the adult entertainment center Nana Plaza has certainly contributed to this.
Reader Submission: Trained 'Great Apes' (Photos)
Following Arjen's story about coconut picking by monkeys, here are some pictures.
Sathorn Unique Tower in Bangkok
The Sathorn Unique Tower in Bangkok is an unfinished skyscraper in the Thai capital Bangkok. Planned as a luxury high-rise complex, construction was halted during the 1997 Asian financial crisis, when it was already about 80 percent complete.
KLM hotel “Plaswijck” in Bangkok
A photo report of the well-known KLM hotel “Plaswijck” in Bangkok (photos from 2009). Bangkok used to be a very important hub for Southeast Asia after the battle in the Dutch East Indies, in the time of Sukarno, because KLM was no longer allowed to land in Jakarta.
A 'murder tree' in Thailand
Once, before the Covid period, I was walking near the Big C supermarket in the outskirts of Bangkok. My eyes fell on a tree that was just beginning to bloom. Almost the whole area was full of this tree.
Reader Submission: The Water Hyacinth (Photos)
The water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) is an aquatic plant from the pontederia family (Pontederiaceae). The plant originates from South America. The lilac flowers resemble those of the hyacinth, but the plants are not related.
Reader Submission: The Owl
Once I took a little walk near our house. It was already evening, no local traffic. Suddenly I saw a Barn Owl, Common Barn Owl, Tyto Alba feasting on a rat.
Since 2006, I have been living half way through the Nimitmai. Although it is an hour's taxi ride to Ekkamai-BTS, about 25 km., I am still satisfied!
Photos of Bangkok in the distant past
In this video you can see a compilation of old photos of the Thai capital. It is striking that there are no high-rise buildings to be seen yet, such as the enormous skyscrapers that now pollute the horizon. You also see a tram in the streets of Bangkok, which is quite special.
Beautiful photos of Loy Krathong
The best party in Thailand, Loy Krathong, is behind us again. In Bangkok Post there is a beautiful photo series where both Thai and foreigners launch a Krathong in the hope of a happy and prosperous year.
The Viharna Sien museum near Pattaya (photos)
No posting this time because several have already appeared. This time a short presentation with pictures what one can expect in this fantastic museum.
I'm looking for photos from 1957 to 1975 of the bars in Bangkok and Pattaya where American soldiers came during the Vietnam War. And also beautiful photos from the 60s of Bangkok.
Smoking prohibited on Hua Hin beach (photos)
It's time on the beach of Hua Hin as of today no more smoking on the beach. Fine 100.000 baht and/or 1 year in prison. However, there are also corners where smoking is allowed.
Harvesting in Isaan (photos)
With thanks to the Inquisitor, for his beautiful reflections on the raw Isan life. Two years ago I was able to cooperate for a day during harvest time, this is very disappointing for a farang also in good condition. I would like to give the fellow blog readers an insight into my single-day rice harvest, the subsequent harvesting of the sugar cane here some time later, I have left this experience behind me, but out of my head.
International kite festival in Cha-am
The 'International Kite Festival 2017' will be held in the seaside town of Cha-am. this event lasts until 12 March and provides spectacular pictures.
Old photos of Pattaya
In 1980 I came to Thailand for the first time. I traveled extensively in the Middle East and then was sent to Bangkok to negotiate a cooperation contract with a Thai firm. That was not so easy, so I traveled there again a few times. My Thai hosts sometimes took me to Pattaya on weekends.
American women arrested for nude photos in temple
It seems to be trending. A few weeks ago, there was already a scandal about three French tourists who took nude photos in Angkor Wat. On Friday, two American sisters were arrested in Cambodia for taking nude photos of themselves at this sacred site.
I am getting married on June 22 this year and for our honeymoon we are going to Thailand. Now I have two questions. I would like a nice photo shoot in Thailand after our wedding. What do you recommend in terms of locations and are there any photographers you can recommend in Thailand?
