As a child of 11 years old, I went on holiday to Koh Phi Phi with my parents in 1988. It was my first trip to a faraway land, palm-lined beaches, Buddhist temples and exotic food – it was exciting and adventurous, a real experience. Now, more than 25 years later, I visited Koh Phi Phi again, looking for the feeling of the past and looking for images that are imprinted in my head.

Phi Phi Leh's world-famous beach, Maya Bay, is getting a makeover. The beach and the bay have attracted so many tourists that it will close for 2 years to recover from the damage that mass tourism has done to nature.

The Mayan Bay on the island of Phi Phi (Krabi province) famous from the movie, The Beach, is closed from June to September to allow nature to recover.
Dangerous jellyfish also spotted at Krabi: Forbidden to swim
After Phuket, the dangerous jellyfish called the Portuguese man-of-war has also been sighted on the Phi Phi islands near Krabi. This jellyfish species is extremely venomous and therefore dangerous to humans. A swimming ban has been imposed. There is also a ban on entering the sea at some beaches off the coast of Phuket.
