A very good optometrist in Amsterdam has just determined that my left eye most likely has a cataract. He refers me to an eye specialist in a hospital for surgery. Since I live in Pattaya, I have to rely on a Thai hospital. Because after such an operation, aftercare is required and then I am no longer in the Netherlands, so I have to have the operation performed in Pattaya or the surrounding area.

After studying the Thai alphabet for several months, I notice that there are two different types. The traditional which is in every booklet, and another type. After some googling I came across Helvetica Thai by Anuthin Wonsunkakon. I couldn't find anything else, a pity because many signs are described with these letters.

My name is Mark, I am married and have 2 children. We have been living and working in Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat) for about 12 years now
I'm building a house. The aim is that it gives us the “at home” feeling, relaxation after a week of hard work and above all “Dutch cosiness”. We are looking for an experienced interior decorator / interior designer who can help us furnish the house, garden and guesthouse.

I have been coming to Thailand since the 90s and from next year, when I take pre-retirement, I want to settle there permanently between Cha Am and Hua Hin. Because I can't or don't want to sit still I'm thinking about volunteering for a nice NGO or charitable institution. I would like to do something in PR/Marketing/Social Media Campaign or something like that.

The entire discussion surrounding the new income statement is still unclear. What if one receives the gross occupational pension in Thailand? And people are exempt from paying tax in the Netherlands? Is that sufficient to obtain a statement from the embassy?

Is it true that Thailand is striving to get a wealthier category of pensioners into the country? The new 5-year retirement visa adopted by the Thai government may be an example of this. And rumors are circulating that the 1 year retirement visa will be abolished.

I have been living in the north of Thailand for 4 years now and read the reports on various Dutch websites about Thailand. What strikes me is that more than 90% (yes really!!!) is about the south of the country such as the islands, Pattaya, Phuket and the surrounding area. Now I know that most tourism takes place there, but around 2500 Dutch people live in the Chiang Mai region alone.

This summer I will go from Pattaya to Lamai Homestay, Ban Kho Pet, Bua Yai to Nakhon Ratchasima for a few days. According to the owner it is easy from Pattaya with a bus to Khon Kaen and then ask the driver to let me off in SIDA the intersection with road 2 and road 202 between Korat and Khon Kaen. That's where the owner comes to pick me up. But when I look for information about this, it seems not so simple and very vague.

Who has experience with having the date of birth corrected in Thailand? My girlfriend is Thai from the Hua Hin area, her father only filed a tax return in 1971 when she was already 5 years old. This has practical consequences for the future, such as that 5 years later than others, she will be eligible for accrued state pension in the Netherlands or old-age allowance in Thailand.
