Thailand Visa question No. 042/24: Paid or voluntary help at school is that allowed or do you need a work permit?
We have been living in Thailand for several months to care for my Thai mother-in-law. My visa does not allow me to work in Thailand. Now the local primary school and the mayor have asked me if I would like to be present at the school for approximately 3 hours a week to allow the children (5-7 years old) to become "acquainted" with a foreigner (to remove fear). ) and get used to the English language in a playful way. As many people know, a Thai learns English at school, but is often far too afraid to actually speak it.
The Foreign Office is currently looking for new probation volunteers in Bangkok and Pattaya. The volunteers visit, among others, Dutch prisoners in Thai prisons.
For volunteering to Ban Nong Phong village (readers' submission)
In April 2022 I will go to the village of Ban Nong Phong in the North of Thailand (Udon Thani Province) for volunteer work. I'm going to teach Muay Thai there and English lessons at the Summer School of the volunt2Thai volunteer project.
Thailand Visa question No. 003/21: How many hours do I have to work as a "Volunteer"?
I have a question about “Non-immigrant Visa “O” Visa for volunteering in Thailand”. If you have this visa you must do volunteer work for a school or for an NGO. This organization must then issue a certificate that you do volunteer work every 90 days.
When she registered a high fever in a woman in her rural community, Auntie Arun alerted the local hospital, which quickly dispatched a team of doctors and healthcare personnel to transport a COVID-19 patient. Fortunately, the woman did not have the corona virus and the village of Moo 11 in Nong Khai province remains free of the pandemic. Auntie Arun (Arunrat Rukthin), 60, said she intends to keep it that way.
Reader Question: How do I sign up for volunteering in Thailand?
I live in Thailand, speak Thai fairly well and would like to volunteer. Is there an agency where I can register? For the readers who are now going to shout: you are not allowed to work in Thailand, that is not correct. The tourist police also has foreign volunteers.
Volunteers wanted in Cambodia
The Dutch embassy in Bangkok and Bureau Buitenland are looking for Dutch-speaking volunteers who are willing to regularly visit Dutch detainees in Cambodia (surroundings of Siem Reap and Sihanoukville).
"What are you doing in the wider Thai community?"
Everyone is different and everyone has their own place in and view of the Thai community. Some work here, others are retired and many come as tourists. Opinions about Thailand and our place in it therefore differ considerably. There is nothing wrong with that. It makes me curious about everyone's role.
Volunteering abroad? Beware of orphanage tourism
Do you want to volunteer in a developing country? Don't be surprised and prepare well. Voluntary work in orphanages is especially popular, but sometimes has unintended negative consequences.
Thai volunteering in a bad light
There are quite a few foreign volunteers active in Thailand, who are involved in help in, for example, children's homes, health care, education or animal care. This blog has already written a story about that volunteer work.
Volunteer at the elephant sanctuary (video)
Elephants appeal to the imagination. Seeing and caring for these impressive Jumbos up close is a dream of many young ladies and gentlemen. There is therefore a lot of interest in combining a holiday in Thailand with volunteer work at an elephant shelter, for example in Chiang Mai. You can learn more about that in this video.
I have been coming to Thailand since the 90s and from next year, when I take pre-retirement, I want to settle there permanently between Cha Am and Hua Hin. Because I can't or don't want to sit still I'm thinking about volunteering for a nice NGO or charitable institution. I would like to do something in PR/Marketing/Social Media Campaign or something like that.
Volunteer work in an orphanage in Thailand
Last week I did volunteer work in an orphanage, what an impressive and intense week that was! In the orphanage there are about 275 children with ages between 4 and 16. The orphanage is quite small and the facilities are minimal.

We received this video from our reader Rinus Joosen from Etten-leur. His daughter Manou has worked as a volunteer at Elephantsworld in Kanchanaburi in February 2014.
Reader question: Is a medical examination required for a Non-Immigration OA Long Stay visa?
I am in the Netherlands for a month and have already brought the necessary forms for the application of a Non-Immigration OA (for voluntary work) Long Stay visa from Thailand.

Do you want to do charity or volunteer work during the holidays? Or maybe there are expats who want to help build Thailand? Here is a list of organizations.
I am 20 years old and at the end of August I will go to Thailand for a year to do volunteer work. One of the requirements set by the Thai consulate for the non-immigrant 'o' visa is not possible for the project where I will be working.
