Gustave Rolin Jaequemijns, former Minister of Foreign Affairs in Belgium, was from 1892 to 1895 counselor to the Thai (Siamese) King Chulalongkorn, or Rama V. This made this Belgian the most influential European in the history of Thailand.

Since the delicate skin of this 'migratory bird' is rather sensitive to the sun's rays, it does not particularly prefer the otherwise beautiful Thai beaches. Down in Chiangmai he enjoys the surroundings again. Thailand's second city has a lot more to offer than the bars around Loykroh Road, the Anusarn market or Doi Suthep to name just a few tourist attractions.

The journey continues towards Brunei, officially the State of Brunei Darussalam. It is located on Borneo on the South China Sea and is completely surrounded by the Malaysian state of Sarawak. With 5.765 km², Brunei is slightly larger than Gelderland in the Netherlands or Antwerp plus Belgian Limburg. Brunei was an independent sultanate from the 14th century and then included the southern Philippines plus Sarawak and Sabah. In 1888 it became a British protectorate.

Every now and then when I am in Bangkok I like to pay a visit to my favorite restaurant Ban Kanitha on Soi 23.
In my opinion it is one of the best and nicest restaurants in town. You can enjoy delicious Thai dishes both indoors and outdoors and they also have a reasonable range of wines.
