A beer and two Lady drinks

Every now and then when I am in Bangkok I like to pay a visit to my favorite restaurant Baan Khanitha on Soi 23.

In my opinion it is one of the best and nicest restaurants in town. You can enjoy delicious Thai dishes both indoors and outdoors and they also have a reasonable range of wines. It is not exactly a cheap restaurant but the quality/price comparison is excellently balanced.

Waiter Music!

In such an environment with a tasty snack and a good glass, I occasionally miss the violinist who adds something extra to the dinner. Although quite down-to-earth by nature, I can dream away wonderfully with a certain type of music or really jump out of the spell with a slide trombone and saxophone. In the XNUMXs, I was told, certain catering establishments had automatic musical instruments that could imitate an entire orchestra. Orchestrions were called those instruments. If you wanted to hear music, you just shouted: “Waiter, music” and things turned upside down.

'Bring your wife into Ecstasy' was a slogan of an Amsterdam nightlife venue called Ecstasy, where you could dance to the compelling music. At Heck's on Rembrandtplein, orchestras such as Malando, The Ramblers and Boyd Bachman played, and in the small Bamboo Bar there was a small stage with piano, double bass and a few other instruments on which the guests could make music themselves as they saw fit. Or go to the Leidsestraat where Max Woiski and his orchestra in La Cubana put you in a cheerful mood. It's all past that time, simply unaffordable for the operator.

Thailand Live Music

Although wages in Thailand are significantly lower, you would expect that there would still be some good music in the nightlife venues. Yes and no. It depends on what you prefer. In Pattaya I sometimes like to enter the Jazz Pitt (Second Rd Soi 5), where it is nice and quiet and you can escape the hectic bar life at the adjacent PIC restaurant. In Bangkok, I admit it, I sometimes hang out on Soi Cowboy after a nice meal. Depending on the orchestra, I sometimes want to visit Country Road for a short or longer period of time. Too bad the other store with the same name on the corner of Soi 19 has had to make way for the construction of the new Terminal 21 department store.

A beer and two lady drinks

Enter this evening on Soi Cowboy at the aforementioned Country Road where the sounds of trumpet, saxophone and slide trombone provide an excellent atmosphere.

Take a seat at one of the tables and order a beer and two lady drinks at the same time. A variation on a trick I recently read on this blog. The waitress doesn't know what to do with it, because I'm sitting there alone. See her discuss with a colleague a little later what she should do with that guy at that table.

They also apparently can't figure it out together, so she comes back again. That beer is clear, but which lady drinks should she bring. I just point to another lady with some orangey stuff in a glass and tell her it must be something like this. When the glasses and my beer come to the table, I ask her if there are two ladies who want to come and drink it. And …. I knew that. In no time I was almost assaulted. My ego grew to unprecedented heights and my age fell by years with every sip. At the third or fourth round I even thought I was staying with Max Woiski again and I also saw Boyd Bachman again. And those two girls thought I was an angel. Regularly both pressed their soft lips against my cheeks. I was in a dream world for a while.

Isan music

At a certain moment the orchestra gave way to another ensemble. The opening track can be seen, and of course also heard, a topper from the Isan. All the girls become hysterical and my two table ladies also dance and sing with their arms in the air on the floor. What a picture. This Romeo wanted to jump in between, but was just able to control himself. At the climax I left the party anyway, leaving my two new friends with tears in their eyes.

Will I come back tomorrow? Perhaps. Although I only had eyes for beautiful and nice ladies, I couldn't help but take a quick look back when I left the store. Luckily didn't see anyone sitting alone at a table with two glasses of beer. After all, you never know.

Wonderful story. In Pataya I also often go to the beer garden. There are always middle-aged ladies lurking there who want to earn a few bats on the side. Did the same. Sit with the lady and say-are you looking for company my dear- order a beer and a lady drinking success guaranteed.

Dear Joseph, Baan Khanitha is also always on my bucket list whenever I am in Bangkok. After all the times I've visited it, I still struggle to get the small snacks, which are provided free of charge as an amuse-bouche on that beautifully colored plate, into the tray and to fold it neatly. Soi Cowboy is within walking distance, even for a Thai, and just like you, I can really enjoy all those Thai women and men who cannot possibly stay in their seats when hearing a popular Isan song. I can well imagine that, especially after a beer, you have to control yourself to the utmost not to participate in the partying. Sometimes in Bangkok it seems that all Thais have their origins in the Isan.
