Thailand Immigration vraag Nr 218/25: Twee visa exemption binnenkomsten per kalenderjaar?

Vanaf 1 januari 2026 wordt de teller voor visumvrije binnenkomsten via landgrenzen (zoals Laos – Thailand) opnieuw op nul gezet. Je mag dan weer 2 landgrens-entries per kalenderjaar doen, klopt dat?

Is dat zeker?

In de mededeling is er sprake van “more than twice” en “multiple entries and exits per year”. Samen zou dit willen zeggen meer dan twee over een periode van een jaar. Maar misschien bedoelt men eigenlijk wel een kalenderjaar. Ik kan dan ook niet met zekerheid bevestigen of alles weer op nul komt te staan vanaf 1 januari.

Bovendien staat er ook “all immigration checkpoints, both airport and border, will implement strict measures to control the entry and exit of foreigners” en zal het geen verschil meer uitmaken of je via een grenspost over land of via een luchthaven binnenkomt.

“1. Enhance and intensify screening of individuals who frequently use visa-free entry and exit without returning to their home country, which is unusual for tourists. This is to prevent individuals disguised as tourists. It has been found that these foreigners use visa exemptions to enter Thailand for a maximum of 90 days at a time, allowing multiple entries and exits per year. This presents an opportunity for some foreigners to disguise themselves as tourists to enter Thailand for various transactions instead of applying for the proper visa type. This creates weaknesses in the system’s behavioral control. Therefore, all immigration checkpoints, both airport and border, will implement strict measures to control the entry and exit of foreigners. If a foreigner repeatedly uses visa-free entry more than twice without providing a valid reason, they will be denied entry, allowing them to apply for a visa that reflects their true purpose.
