I have been living in the north of Thailand for 4 years now and read the reports on various Dutch websites about Thailand. What strikes me is that more than 90% (yes really!!!) is about the south of the country such as the islands, Pattaya, Phuket and the surrounding area. Now I know that most tourism takes place there, but around 2500 Dutch people live in the Chiang Mai region alone.

In this video, Ton Reijnders talks about his life in Thailand, where he has lived for four years now. At 58 he wanted to stop working. He first left for Brazil and then ended up in Thailand. Ton soon met his current wife and decided to build a house in Khon Kaen. On his motorcycle he visits his Dutch friends in the city and tells about his life in Isaan.

We recently had a party. A cozy get-together with Thai women and their Dutch partners. It was about anything and everything, a lot of chatter and above all a lot of fun. At one point I got into a conversation with an older woman, mid-50s and suddenly all Farang on the spot were called looters of the worst kind.

I have been hibernating in Isaan with my Thai girlfriend for several months now. In a nearby village of Ban Thum, where I had cast my fishing rod at the lake at 6 o'clock in the morning, I was approached by a foreigner. We talked about anything and everything and he told us that further down the lake there is a restaurant run by a Dutchman and his wife. My curiosity was awakened.

We have been living on Koh Samui in Mae Nam for 3 months a year for 6 years now. We are having a great time here and have built up a small circle of acquaintances. Our question is whether there is an organization or association or favorite bar on Samui where these Dutch people have united and with that there is the possibility to expand our circle of friends and acquaintances on a Dutch basis?

Yesterday not only spring started, but it was also the international day of happiness. Those born in the Netherlands can count themselves lucky, because our people are among the six happiest countries in the world. As far as is now known to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 4 Dutch people were injured yesterday in the bomb explosion in Hua Hin in Thailand. It concerns three women, aged 49, 23 and 18. They are still in the hospital. The first two are seriously injured, the 18-year-old is slightly injured.

Ten percent more Dutch to Thailand

Thailand welcomed more than 6 million foreigners in January and February. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports says that this is an increase of 15,48 percent compared to a year earlier. In the same period, 10% more Dutch people also visited the 'Land of Smiles'.
