'A Flemish person looking for a second life full of simplicity and beautiful moments'
Jules swapped the Belgian rain for the sun of Pattaya, looking for a second life full of simplicity and beautiful moments. Every morning he sits under his familiar parasol on the beach, enjoying coffee with a dash of whisky and the casual conversations with other pensioners. But behind his smile sometimes lies a touch of melancholy.
The EXPATS: “Life is beautif….” (video)
Ron and Don, two headstrong Flemish people who are spending their retirement in Thailand, are back for a new episode full of hilarity. This time Don has disappeared and Ron finds him in a dubious shop on Jomtien Beach Road, clearly under the influence. What follows is a comical scene in which Ron does everything he can to get his friend home safely.
A few weeks ago I posted a short (hopefully comical) video about two grumpy and nagging Flemish Expats in Thailand. In a second video, both men go to Bang Saray because one of them wants to go fishing at all costs.
As a Flemish expat (from Antwerp), I decided last year to make a series of short comic videos with a comrade about what can happen to expats in Thailand.

Our Belgian friends are organizing a great party in Pattaya, at the Tree House Garden in Huay Yai, on Friday 27 January: the Seventh Flemish musical garden party with Lia Linda & Lou Deprijck.
Jean-Baptiste Maldonado: a Flemish Jesuit in Ayutthaya
Little is known about Jean-Baptiste Maldonado's childhood years. We know that he was a Fleming who was born in 1634 in the Southern Netherlands and that he spent a large part of his childhood in Mons or Bergen in Wallonia.
On Wednesday, August 17, 2022, Villa Oranje is organizing a Dutch/Flemish evening. Starts at 17.00 p.m.
Flemings in Phuket?
I don't live far from Rawai Beach, but I do need a car or motorcycle to get there, and back to Mother the (Thai) woman. I know, with appreciation, the West Flemish Viking Cafe/restaurant/brasserie, but nothing else that equals Flemish.
The experiences of Jacobus van de Koutere, a Bruges adventurer in Siam and surroundings (part 2)
Today part 2 of the story about the South Dutchman, the Bruges-born Jakobus van de Koutere or Jacques van de Coutre as he became internationally known. A Fleming who – oh irony of history – had devoted a large part of his life to fighting the VOC…
The experiences of Jacobus van de Koutere, a Bruges adventurer in Siam and surroundings (part 1)
The Portuguese were the first Farang to set foot in Siam in 1511. They were followed a century later by the Dutch. That is how it reads in the history books, although this story deserves some nuance. It was not the Northern Dutch shippers and merchants of the VOC who first arrived from our regions in the Siamese capital Ayutthaya. This honor belongs to a South Dutchman, the Bruges native Jakobus van de Koutere or Jacques van de Coutre as he became internationally known. A Fleming who – oh irony of history – had devoted a large part of his life to fighting the VOC…
Are there Dutch and/or Flemish people living in the province of Sakaew/Sakaeo? And who would like to meet each other and be able to communicate in Dutch again?
Reader question: Do Flemish people live around Rio Et?
My question is, do Flemish people live around Rio Et? What can I get in touch with? I live 15 km from Rio Et.
Belgian VRT will stop BVN on 1 July
Flemings who live in Thailand or elsewhere abroad will soon no longer be able to do so via satellite television. From July 1, the VRT will stop cooperation with the satellite channel BVN.
Reader question: Contact in Thailand with other Belgians
My childhood friend lives in Samnak Thon (Ban Chang) since 4 years. He regrets not being able to contact anyone from his native region of Baardegem (Aalst) or the surrounding area.
Encounter with a Flemish razor clam in Thailand
Last week Gringo came into conversation with Barry from Izegem. He was on holiday in Thailand, because January and February were quiet months in his profession. He told me that he stands on the market, not as a real merchant, but as a sharpener of scissors and knives.

Hello all! Ik Departure, the iconic TV program that is very popular in the Netherlands, is getting a Flemish version. Dutch and Flemish people who emigrate to another country stick to their own language and culture. This is evident from the very first worldwide inventory of the preservation or loss of the Dutch language, culture and identity.
My name is Raymond. I am a 65 year old Belgian. I live in Trang Province (Huai Yot District). I would like to get in touch with other Flemings (or Dutch-speaking people). Please within the radius of 100 km around Huai Yot.
A Thailand blog greets all Flemish people
This time nothing about Thailand but just a greeting to our very best neighbours; the Belgians and in particular the Flemings.
I have been hibernating in Isaan with my Thai girlfriend for several months now. In a nearby village of Ban Thum, where I had cast my fishing rod at the lake at 6 o'clock in the morning, I was approached by a foreigner. We talked about anything and everything and he told us that further down the lake there is a restaurant run by a Dutchman and his wife. My curiosity was awakened.
Agenda: Musical garden party of the Flemish Club Pattaya
For the third time already, the Flemish Club Pattaya is organizing a musical garden party, a happening that no Fleming in and around Pattaya should miss. This time the club succeeded in bringing the famous Flemish singer Gary Hagger to Thailand and Lou Deprijck and others will also perform.
