I have been hibernating in Isaan with my Thai girlfriend for several months now. To be precise in Ban Ped, a village close to Khon Kaen. One of my pastimes is fishing. I get my money's worth in the many streams and lakes.

Also in the nearby village of Ban Thum, where I cast my fishing rod at the lake at 6 o'clock in the morning. I was approached by a foreigner. We talked about anything and everything and he told us that further down the lake there is a restaurant run by a Dutchman and his wife. My curiosity was awakened.

I decided to pay a visit. Nong, the owner of Ban Tulip (that's the name of the place), was busy putting things in order. However, it turned out to house not only a restaurant, but also a mini market, fitness center and swimming pool. They also rent out a spacious apartment. Jean-Luc, Nong's husband and who has been living in Thailand for over 11 years, is from Maastricht.

He told me that more and more foreigners are finding their way to his business. In addition to the English, Germans and Australians, there are also Dutch and Belgians. The restaurant offers a Western menu for a small price: between 49 and 69 Baht. You can exercise or swim there for 50 Baht per day.

I am happy with this new address, where I have already been able to spend many hours with “farangs”. Has your curiosity also been aroused? Here are the coordinates from Google Maps: www.google.nl/maps/@16.4459408,102.7263596,288m /data=!3m1!1e3

Looks nice on that lake. Very reasonably priced too, pay 4-6x as much in the south as you can also use the sauna. Is that apartment with including the double carport 😉

A Western “menu” between 49 and 69THB. Do wonder what they can put on your plate for that or is it a typo?

Hey Addie, after spending an afternoon in the pool last week I was starving. Immediately ordered a double portion and lost 120 bath. And then I was able to eat my tummy well. Tip: I have never eaten spaghetti carbonara so well anywhere and the steak and German sausage is also finger licking good…

I visited Tulip for a few hours around noon yesterday with my wife and 3 children. Children had a good time in the clean swimming pool and then showered.

We enjoyed sitting by the pool.

Then we ate together at a large table. Good quality food. Pork steak, tuna salad and spagetti carbonara and bolognese.

    Recommended. Thank you Marc.
