“Thai culture” according to Geert Hofstede
Geert Hofstede is a Dutch social psychologist, who is world-renowned for his pioneering work in studying cultures around the world. I make an attempt to compare the cultures of Thailand and the Netherlands, as recorded by Hofstede.
Every self-respecting football club, anywhere in the world, has a logo. A logo, in which the character of the club or a reference to the place of origin is incorporated.
How will my son get his girlfriend from Thailand to the Netherlands for 3 months? He has done all sorts of things, but Foreign Affairs always rejects the visa applications because it is not sufficiently proven that she will return to Thailand after 3 months, while she also has a 7-year-old child there. It is to become despondent!
“Dutch delight” week in Thailand?
A “Dutch Delight week” in Thailand with all kinds of Dutch products in the sheep of a supermarket. Is that a good idea, Gringo wonders? What do you think?
Dutch women's volleyball in Bangkok
Did you know that the Dutch women's volleyball team is currently participating in a major tournament in Bangkok, the FIVB World Grand Prix 2016? Well, I certainly didn't, but was made aware of it by messages on the Facebook page of the Dutch embassy in Bangkok.
Now that my emigration to Thailand is canceled because of the sky-high health insurance for there, I have decided to let my girlfriend come to the Netherlands to live and work here. Can someone tell me what the approximate costs are to realize this?
With Lizzy to the land of once
Hans Bos (67) went on tour with his daughter Lizzy (almost 6) through the Netherlands, his country of yesteryear. The journey was definitely worth it, although the cold sometimes threw a spanner in the works.
We, my Thai girlfriend and I, go to Thailand every year for about 6 months. This year my girlfriend went due to circumstances 3 months earlier. Eventually she will stay in Thailand for 9 months. Now she wants to go back sooner because she is afraid that she will get into trouble with the Dutch government because she was abroad (read Thailand) for more than 8 months.
A while back there was a reader question from someone about how to send parcels from the Netherlands to Thailand. But I have the same question, but in reverse. Are there people in Thailand with experiences regarding sending parcels of goods from Thailand to the Netherlands?
My name is Hendrik, and I have been married to a Thai for 7 years. Unfortunately, my wife passed away at the beginning of March this year after a short illness. My wife and son lived permanently in Thailand. Together we have a 5,5 year old son, whom I now want to bring to the Netherlands to take over the care here in the Netherlands.
Statement of the week: Going back to the Netherlands is more difficult than leaving for Thailand
Suppose your emigration is disappointing and you want to return to the Netherlands after many years in Thailand? A difficult subject that is often taboo. Rarely do expats dare to admit that they have misjudged themselves. The proposition is therefore that returning is more difficult than leaving. Join the discussion.
My name is Arnoud, I have a Thai girlfriend from Surin for 3 years now. A few weeks ago she came to the Netherlands for the first time to go on holiday. And she loved it here! She would now like to work here for a year or more before we continue to build our future in Thailand. How do we handle that?

She can hardly sleep. On May 3, Lizzy and I fly from Bangkok to Amsterdam. It is her first time traveling abroad. And now to 'Hollend', the country of her father, her brother and sisters and also her niece and nephews who are almost the same age.
Shopping streets in the Netherlands are becoming unrecognizable
Expats in Thailand who occasionally return to the Netherlands to visit family and friends will be surprised when they visit the shopping streets. Familiar retail chains are rapidly disappearing.

A cold visit to the homeland
As if the air conditioner was set too cold. This is how I felt in the Netherlands for two weeks. It was the first visit to the homeland in almost three years.
I wonder if you can buy the real Dutch liquorice, farm liquorice and other liquorice varieties somewhere in Thailand. I have lived here for 4 years and the only ones I have eaten are from someone who brings them from the Netherlands but I would like to buy them myself.
