Duty of care, but for how long….
In humans it is often customary for parents to take care of their children and for the children to disappear from under their mother's wings at a certain point and to continue their own way independently. However, this is not the case everywhere. In Thailand you run into too often that the reverse process will take place when the children become adults. It is then considered self-evident that the children will support their parents financially.
Not enough Thai children
Thailand faces a demographic challenge: a looming shortage of young people and an increasing aging population. The Thai government is looking for solutions to avoid a future with predominantly elderly people. Their plan: a birth incentive campaign and the establishment of fertility centers. But is this enough to tackle the drastic social changes?
Thailand is facing a worrying trend: a rapidly increasing number of young people are developing diabetes, mainly caused by their high-sugar diets. This is evident from recent predictions from the International Diabetes Federation and the Diabetes Association of Thailand, which foresee an increase from 4,8 million to 5,3 million diabetics by 2040.

I hope everyone is doing well. I have a small favor to ask. This Christmas holiday my two children and I are going on holiday to Thailand for the first time (we really can't wait!). To prepare them a bit and to stimulate their curiosity, I am looking for children's books about Thailand.

The somewhat older among us can still remember the period when (black and white) TV was introduced in the Netherlands. Usually there was someone in the street who could afford a TV. On Wednesday afternoon all the neighborhood children went there to watch TV.

Karen child refugee school in Ban Ti is nearing completion
The construction of the school for Karen child refugees from Burma, a stone's throw from the border west of Kanchanaburi, has been delayed in recent months by the heavy wet monsoon. Now that this is a bit over, work has quickly resumed. The official opening will almost certainly take place in January next year. A former police officer shot dead at least 35 people, including 22 young children, this afternoon at a daycare center in Na Klang district, Nong Bua Lamphu province, northeastern Thailand. There are also many injured.
A lost generation?
I have been living in the Thai countryside since November 2021, in a small village in Udon Thani with approximately 700 inhabitants. When I look around me when I walk, cycle or drive through the village, I mainly see old people, middle-aged Thais (40-50) with the children away from home and very few young people and children. And on average twice a month I hear the explosion of fireworks that are set off during a cremation in the temple. Another (sick) oldiedeceased. The village is only getting smaller because I haven't seen a baby yet. The primary school has 3 teachers and 23 children and is doomed.
Thailand Visa question No. 232/22: Visa for children
My wife is Thai and was supposed to go to Thailand with the kids for holiday yesterday on July 24 for 6 weeks. She is Thai by nationality and the children are Dutch. The holiday has now been canceled because the procedure stopped during check-in at Schiphol because the children do not have a visa and are staying longer than 30 years.
It is not entirely clear to me what the entry rules are for unvaccinated children aged 6 and under. The website indicates: (5-17 and below 5) “under the same scheme as their guardians”.
Conditions for a Thai woman with a 3-year-old son (Dutch passport) to travel to Thailand
Maybe you can help me. My Thai wife's mother passed away and she has to go to Thailand soon (we live in the Netherlands). She has a Thai and a Dutch passport. No problem for her with the entry rules from June 1. However, she takes her 3-year-old son with her (he has a Dutch passport).

As a young guest I had already seen a piece of the world, but parenting has put a pause on long journeys simply because it is less practical to be on the go with young kids. Jutje my daughter turned 8 this year and Neo my son 11… so time to let them explore the wide world and let them taste other cultures.
