Sallo Polak, the energetic Dutchman, who has been in charge of Philanthropy Connections in Chiang Mai for many years, has expressed a birthday wish in a newsletter from the foundation. His wish is to get your support and donation for a special education project for Karen children. He wrote:

Dear friends,

Two years ago I appealed to you to provide financial aid for children in Myanmar. They faced unimaginable challenges. When I think back to that day, I am humbled and inspired by the incredible support we received from caring people like you.

I had hoped to tell you that the situation there has now improved and the children are now safe from the armed conflict that has forced many of them to flee their homes. Unfortunately! After COVID and a number of major natural disasters, these children are still struggling beyond belief.

We have therefore continued to support. Unfortunately, this year we again face a funding shortfall for one of our most important projects in Myanmar. So for my birthday I can't imagine a better gift than to let the group of children in this project know that they have not been forgotten. Help us, so that together we can make a difference for about 760 children in our SchoolPower project.

Highly recommended!

Bert Gringhuis (1945), born and raised in Almelo in the beautiful Twente. Later lived for many years in Amsterdam and Alkmaar, working in export for various companies. I first came to Thailand in 1980 and immediately fell in love with the country. Been back many times since then and moved to Thailand after my (early) retirement as a widower. I have been living there for 22 years now with my somewhat younger Thai lady Poopae.
My first experiences in Thailand as a kind of newsletter sent to family, friends and acquaintances, which later appeared under the name Gringo on Thailandblog. Many, many articles followed those first stories and that has grown into an almost daily hobby.
In the Netherlands still an avid footballer and football referee, but the years are starting to tell and in Thailand still avid, but the pool billiards is really of inferior quality, ha ha!
