Hospitals (reader submission)
That you can get "Western service" in a hospital in Bangkok I am willing to believe. When I lived in Kingston, New Jersey, three miles from Princeton, we would go to the city once a week for Thai food, and that restaurant was always full of young Thais. They were at university there, and not on scholarships: this was where the "crème de la crème" of Thai wealthy families came to study to succeed their fathers - ministers, Chinese businessmen, and doctors.
Premiere: To the hospital in Bangkok
A few days ago it was finally time. After an earlier confrontation with a Thai dentist, now a cautious but personal introduction to a local hospital. Not a version with a resounding name, but one for the common people within walking distance of the hotel in Bangkok where we had settled for 2 nights as a stopover for our journey home.
Resistant bacteria are a growing problem, also in the Netherlands. Although the number of insensitive bacteria remains stable, infections with particularly resistant species are increasing. Good hygiene and responsible use of antibiotics are crucial to prevent the spread. Both in healthcare and in livestock farming, hard work is being done to reduce resistance, but continued attention is necessary.

Medical care in Thailand: Top or flop?
After reading this anecdote you are probably none the wiser, but laughing (or chuckling) is apparently healthy and the information below may therefore contribute to better health. So don't expect factual or business-like, comprehensive analyzes of the entire medical system, or even a small part of it, in Thailand or anywhere else. If you choke on it, please ask a friend or family member for a medical pat on the back.
Hospital visit
Although the Thai does not really differ much from the Dutch, you sometimes experience something in Thailand that you will not easily experience in the Netherlands. Today:
And in case of illness/accident in Thailand?
Following yet another unsavory turn of events, this time involving an unconscious tourist after a hit-and-run accident, this blog also writes about how a hospital should act.
Unhealthy Thailand
For many, Thailand is the land of the sun that is meant to refuel during a well-deserved holiday for the hard-working Dutchman from the awake Netherlands. Sometimes, however, you get the chance to get a glimpse into an aspect of the country that you were less familiar with until then.
The riot about the hospital costs of the honorary consul Richard Ruijgrok (66), who died in Thailand, will continue. De Telegraaf reports today that the family has paid the costs of 400.000 baht. According to the newspaper, Ruijgrok, brother of the Wassenaar project developer Aad Ruijgrok, was terminally ill, but was at odds with part of the family.
Family deceased Richard Ruijgrok (former Thai consul general) does not want to pay the bill for a hospital in Bangkok
The death in Nonthaburi of 66-year-old Richard Ruijgrok (former consul-general in the Netherlands) has caused quite a stir in Thailand. Channel 7 spent more than half an hour on it yesterday afternoon, in particular on the unpaid bill of 400.000 baht (almost 11.000 euros) from the Nontawes hospital in Nonthaburi (near Bangkok).

Were these the hands of Juana, or the hands of Noi and Lek, of Tim and Aye and Aed, or of Nid , Two and Uan… Heavenly angels from the City of Angels? Bob van Duinen reports from the Thai Nakarin hospital in Bangkok.
About health insurance and hospital
I vaguely remember having my tonsils cut (tonsillectomy), when I was about 4 or 5 years old, I was in a hospital and I got a big wooden fire engine. That's my only memory of everything that has to do with doctors, hospitals and that kind of shit.
What are readers' experiences with hospitals in Chiangmai?
I have often asked a reader question about all kinds of subjects, but now I am looking for the right health insurance fund and a good hospital in Chiangmai for my retired husband. I contacted AA-Insurance about a health insurance fund to be paid. The premiums are high. My husband is 72 years old.
Life in Thailand: A visit to a private hospital
Lung addie has had a pacemaker for 15 years. Regularly, ie. it should be checked annually for operation and the condition of the battery. This is possible here in Bangkok, in the Rajavithi hospital, because that's where my very first pacemaker was placed 15 years ago. However, Lung addie is hesitant to go to Bangkok, especially now, due to the fact that there is only 1 daily flight from Chumphon to Bangkok.

Reader Submission: 'Through the eye of the needle'
Last week I was not feeling well. Just short of breath and nothing else, we went to a private hospital where an ECG was immediately made. Immediately afterwards with the ambulance to the government hospital, there I got 2 tubes in the urethra.
I have heard strange stories that in the case of hospitalization you have to pay for the treatment in advance and if that is not possible because of the high costs that you will not be helped. Despite health insurance in the Netherlands. Do you need to take out additional insurance in Thailand?
Epilogue discussion medical culture
Thank you very much for all the comments on the question 'Why do Dutch doctors look down on Thai doctors?' many of which are very educational. They provide insight into what many of you expect from doctors and also the fact that good and bad doctors are a global phenomenon, as we see it in every profession.
I read yesterday that if you test positive for Covid-19 in Thailand, you are required to be hospitalized, even if you have no symptoms. Is that right? If so, doesn't that explain why Thailand has so few infections? You would be crazy if you let yourself be tested without having any complaints.
