To ensure that there are fewer complaints about taxis, the TDRI proposes a new minute rate instead of the current kilometer rate. That rate would then amount to 50 satang (half a baht) per minute. As a result, taxi drivers would receive more income and may decline fewer passengers.

The TDRI makes a proposal to the cabinet to increase the starting rate of taxis by 5 baht and to introduce a travel time rate for taxi journeys that take longer than estimated. The current starting fee is now 35 baht.

It can just happen to anyone. One moment you feel nothing, while the next you are in great need to poop. It happened to a Chinese woman in a taxi in Bangkok last Wednesday. She was forced to relieve herself on the probably rubber mat in the back of the taxi, but then refused to pay the taxi driver anything for tidying up and cleaning his taxi.

My brother-in-law drives his own taxi in Bangkok. It's an old car that the insurance company won't insure. Now he has gone through his brake, I think too little maintenance. He had a collision through his own fault and the damage to the other car 30.000 baht.

Arrived this morning from Chiang Rai by bus at Chiang Mai bus terminal. We wanted to continue there by taxi. However, they refused to drive on the meter, "no meter taxi in Chiang Mai" we were told. Finally arrived at our hotel with a songthaew for a reasonable price. Is it normal in Chiang Mai not to drive on the meter?

Comparing both cities or countries with each other is impossible and I will not do it. Nor can you compare Amsterdam with Brussels. Every country and every city has charming features, but you have to want to see them. With flight TG624 from Bangkok I land in Manila after more than three hours of flying. Despite the very first rule, I am already going to make a comparison regarding the airport taxi phenomenon.

Since August 1, Thai Airways no longer flies with the Boeing 777 300ER to Brussels, but with the Airbus A350 900. The editors recently reported this in a message and asked for a short report. We read in this message that the aircraft 'offers more comfort to the passengers.'

Soon the two of us will arrive at Suvarnabhumi and we will take a taxi to Bangkok (Sukhumvit Soi Nana). If the taxi driver does not want to drive on the meter, we can of course get out. But we don't feel like a hassle for those few baht. However, it is useful to know what an acceptable price is for the said ride (including bahtjes for the toll road). Is there a taxi system at Phuket airport like Suvarnabhumi? That means going to the taxi desk and saying where you want to go, paying a fixed amount and being allocated a taxi.

Last Thursday it happened again. Because although I have been living and working in this country for 9 years now, like all foreigners with a 'non-immigrant' visa, I have to report every 90 days, write down where I live and tell them that I would like to stay for another 90 days.

There seems to be no end to the ping-pong about the increase in taxi fares. Contrary to previous reports, the increase in taxi fares has again been postponed by 5 percent. Prime Minister Prayut has personally ensured that it will not take place. The Ministry of Transport should first ensure that taxi drivers stop scamming tourists.
