Column – Decibel Dystopia: The Bars of Pattaya
In the bars of Pattaya, silence is a rare commodity and music is a weapon. As soon as you step inside, talking disappears into nothingness and even shouting becomes pointless. Sound waves strike mercilessly, conversations turn into gestures and your hearing? It remains as a lasting memory of an evening full of decibels and chaos.
Noise pollution in Thailand: A deafening problem with no solution (reader submission)
Thailand is known for its beautiful beaches, vibrant culture and bustling cities, but there is a hidden downside: the constant noise pollution. While tourists and residents try to enjoy everything the country has to offer, they are often confronted with sounds that disrupt their lives. This constant noise goes beyond discomfort and has serious consequences for the health of the population.
Schiphol does not have to shrink as much to reduce noise pollution, according to the new government
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management is presenting a package of measures to reduce noise pollution around Schiphol by 17%. Stricter noise standards, fewer night flights and new, quieter aircraft should ensure a better balance between aviation and the living environment. KLM and Transavia promise to renew their fleets quickly. The plan is now being advised by the European Commission.
Letter submitted to Pattaya News: Urgent action needed for noise pollution from motorcycles in Pattaya
The streets of Pattaya are increasingly plagued by extreme noise pollution caused by motorcycles with modified exhausts. Both tourists and residents complain about the unrest, which damages the image of the city and even leads to accidents. Urgent action is needed from local authorities to tackle this problem and restore peace to the city.
I am looking for an alternative to Mariot Courtyard in Pattaya
When I'm in Pattaya I usually stay at the Mariot Courtyard for a month. It is a quietly located hotel with a very large parking lot. They also offer all kinds of nice discounts when you make a reservation at the reception, and I would like to mention the discount for the elderly.
The Sound of Silence is beautiful but not in Thailand….
In the land of smiles and serene temples lies a less peaceful reality: Thailand is plagued by persistent noise pollution. From loud music in urban centers to roaring motorcycles and endless construction sounds, noise pollution is a daily challenge for both locals and disappointed tourists, who seek peace and quiet but find themselves in a sea of noise.
The municipality of Pattaya is considering setting specific opening hours for the beaches due to increasing nuisance in the late hours by revelers.
The noise of Bangkok
Noise pollution, of course Bangkok is a big city and there is no escaping the annoying and unhealthy noise levels, which seem to only get worse over the years. Unfortunately, little or nothing is being done to curb this much-hated phenomenon.
Thailand question: Noise pollution in Isaan
Many of us live in the Isaan in the Northeast of Thailand. So I have a question for everyone who lives there. In our village we have no fewer than three puja courts. Every morning we are woken up by loud music and then the speech of the first pujabaan, then sometimes the two others follow with the speeches.
For several days now I have been the temporary resident of a Townhouse in the center of Hua Hin. Soi 51 to be exact. The transition from a five-star villa in Jomtien to a somewhat tired and outdated Townhouse in Hua Hin was a big one. But once I have recovered from the worst of the shock, I am quite satisfied with my accommodation.
'The muttering of the monks was deafening'
The muttering of the monks was deafening, made possible by the technology of amplifier and life-sized speaker boxes
Climate summit in Europe (readers' entry)
Our garden, or rather the piece of land behind our house, is infested with dirt. When we came to live there it was a barren place with a lot of bare, dry soil, a few shrubs, one tree and some banana plants.
Noise pollution, a widespread problem in Thailand
Countless are the stories in the media, but also on the Thailand blog of people who are bothered by noise pollution.
I sleep badly because of barking dogs, crowing roosters and what not more animals. How can I best insulate my bedroom against sound? I'm thinking of roller shutters myself, but maybe an expert has many more good or other ideas. This way I can hopefully enjoy an even better night's sleep. That's why my question to you is, do you know a specialized company in or around Chiang Mai?
A police officer has been charged with attempted manslaughter for using his service pistol to end the constant nuisance of the loud music.

A Norwegian martial arts specialist has killed a Briton during an argument in a hotel in Phuket. He strangled the man after complaining about the noise from the adjacent hotel room of the Norwegian and his wife.
Reader Submission: Sound terror has a deafening grip on large parts of Thailand at night
Recently tried to explain to a police station in the northern Thai province of Nan that in our agro-tourism cottage we do not sleep a wink at night because of the disco boom of neighborhood festivals, temple parties and house parties. Sound terror, we read, has a deafening grip on large parts of Thailand at night. Thai suffer, but are too modest to complain.
Noise nuisance from the Asian Koel?
Normally I like bird sounds very much but the Asian Cool bird starts at 3.30 am and I can tell you that it is not a nice sound at night.
Garden party at our resort
Fortunately, Charly's life is full of pleasant surprises (unfortunately sometimes also less pleasant ones). Until a few years ago, he would never have dared to predict that he would spend the rest of his life in Thailand. However, he has now been living in Thailand for a while and in recent years close to Udonthani. In this episode a small impression of a garden party in our resort.
Noise, why noise?
Can I break a lance for the silence in Thailand? Linked to this is the question where it can still be found? Thais don't seem to have an eye (or ear) for (dirty) noise. Wherever you go, the amplifier is blaring at full power. Go into the city and experience the following: the taxi driver often not only has his radio on loud, but also watches the DVD screen while driving. Protesting doesn't help, getting out does.
Faith and technology
Early this morning in rural Thailand, I am rudely awakened by a persistently loud voice. I feel it is still the middle of the night, but when I look at the alarm clock it appears to be five o'clock in the morning.
Reader submission: Just a street…
Jeroen from Dirksland (ZH) looks around the street where his girlfriend lives. He sees a teacher, two financial service providers, a student and a woman alone. A story about just any street in Thailand.
