Tax Thailand Q&A: Questions about the tax file and general
Have a few questions about the file and in general.
Will the elderly be hit in 2015?
The newspapers have been full of it in recent weeks: 'The elderly will be hit hard in 2015.' Scare mongering or truth?
Reader question: Divorced from Dutch wife, can I stay there?
I live separately from my Dutch wife in Thailand (we are still officially married) because of this separate life we both have the single living benefit of the AOW.
I have a question about the AOW. I am authorized by my old Thai neighbor who has lived in the Netherlands for 28 years with a Dutch man. Husband has died and Mrs has returned to Thailand.
My good friend would like to go to Thailand when he turns 65 this year, but he is in a difficult package. I have a lot of questions because he only has state pension and not 800.000 Bath in the bank.
Call: Reader wanted for AOW tax file
Erik Kuipers is going to create a tax file for AOW pensioners. He is looking for an expert co-reader to comment on the draft text. Who helps?
If you live in the Netherlands with your partner, a discount applies compared to a single person. Does this also apply if you, as a Dutch national, live together with a Thai partner (who does not have state pension rights) in Thailand?
Has anyone also experienced this? Several times I have seen transfers from my ING bank to my bank in Thailand fail.
Reader question: I'm going to the Netherlands for a while, can I get into trouble with the SVB?
I have been living separately in Thailand from my Dutch wife for years. We are still officially married and she still lives in our joint house in the Netherlands. Because of our current separate living, she, as well as I, have the single benefit.
Reader question: What have AOW pensioners in Thailand arranged for their partner in the event of their death?
I regularly read on this blog the stories about people with (only) an AOW who live together in Thailand or are married to a Thai(se). What have they arranged for their partner in the event of their death? After all, an AOW is personal and cannot be inherited or transferred.
Reader question: Does a Thai partner affect my state pension?
I'm divorced. Receive state pension as a single person. Now I have a Thai girlfriend with a daughter. Can I list her as a partner? Does this have consequences for AOW? And does it also have advantages/disadvantages?
Reader question: Can you voluntarily insure yourself for a pension/state pension in Thailand?
Is there an institution in Thailand, just like the SVB, to voluntarily insure you for your pension/AOW?
(No) Attestation de Vita
At the beginning of November, Gringo received a letter from his pension fund with the summary message: we have not received an Attestation de Vita from you, so the pension payment has been stopped. What was going on?
Does anyone know if I can live in Thailand as a single (man) with only state pension (about € 1023 I thought)? I will receive state pension from 1-1-2016. Hardly any supplementary pension, maybe €80. Does it make a difference whether or not you are married to a Thai?
Proof of life
Because I recently celebrated my birthday, I had to prove again that I fully live up to my rights to state pension. Fortunately, a good friend also celebrated his birthday a few days later, so we went together to the SSO office in Laem Chabang.
I am a single retired man and have found a Thai woman that I click with (since 3 years). I'm thinking about settling in Thailand, now I've read that post about partner allowance, and it scares me a bit.
Phasing out partner allowance AOW starting in 2015
The Netherlands is rapidly phasing out social services. This can have far-reaching consequences for pensioners in Thailand. For example, far-reaching changes are in the pipeline for the AOW partner allowance.
