In my story “These were the KLM hotels in Bangkok” I wrote something about Baan Thara, but I was not really satisfied. I just couldn't find more information on the Internet. Jan gave some additional information, but I asked him to tell me more about Baan Thara, after all, he had been through everything. This is his story.

Since this year, an attempt at marriage in Thailand has become a much more difficult task than before and even more difficult for the Dutch. First of all, the NL embassy has decided in all its wisdom (surprise!) that the Thai must submit a translated and legalized declaration of unmarried status, even though this has nothing to do with what the Thai government wants from the embassy.

I often hear from expats about electricity bills of between 10 and 20.000 Thai baht per month. People will often use the air conditioning otherwise it is almost impossible. I myself have lived in my house for over 11 years and have actually never used an air conditioner. My electricity bill is always between 1000 and 1200 baht, family 3 people, 2 TV, 2 refrigerators with large freezer and of course several PCs on. I have lived in this house for over 11 years, it has been renovated a lot and in such a way that I wanted my house to stay cool.

Thai ID card and debit card of my Thai wife, bank book of the Bangkok Bank, etc. We found it strange that we (the recipients) did not have to sign for receipt and that we did not have to identify ourselves, but that the shipment was sent as an ordinary letter dropped in our mailbox.

If you transfer money to Thailand via TransferWise, you must now indicate the reason for the transfer. Because I didn't know what happens to that data, I checked with TransferWise. I received a reply from TransferWise: “For TransferWise to be able to carry out payments to Thailand, then we would indeed need to request a payment reason from our customers. These are shared confidentially with Thai central bank, no other third parties.”

Since the Thai Consulate in Amsterdam no longer issues 'multiple entries' visas since August 15, 2016, I traveled to the Thai Embassy in The Hague to apply for a 'Non-Immigrant O multiple entries' visa. I am over 50 and self-employed and in Amsterdam I always got such a visa without any problems. All I had to do was prove that I had sufficient financial resources.

I have filed a complaint with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the elderly party 50 plus. I am against the nonsensical rule that when obtaining an income statement, only the funds received from the Netherlands are included. Now there are many Dutch people who have also worked abroad. In my case in Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and Spain. Well, people do not want to include those amounts, although supporting documents are available.
