I'm thinking of taking my retirement straight to Thailand. My question is whether it would be better if I put this in euros on a euro account or convert it directly into Thai baht. My feeling is that I should have a euro account because I can then take euros back to Belgium if I need them there.

The exchange rate of the baht is heading towards 37 (1 euro), which is favorable for the expats here. I think that is due to the appreciation of the Euro. After the billion-dollar deal from the EU, you saw the exchange rate of the euro go up. I soon have to transfer a considerable amount from the Netherlands to Thailand. What do you think, act now or wait?

When I pay in a shop or restaurant with my Belgian MasterCard, people regularly ask me whether I prefer to pay in Euro or in Baht. Does anyone know if that makes any difference and if so what is the cheapest?

In July 2018 I arrived in Thailand again. Have brought cash for 2 years. Then the rate was 1 to 38, in August 1 to 39,2. Then exchanged for 5 months at Superrich. In November the rate was 1 at 35+

The European Central Bank has announced that the support program for the EU will be phased out from September through the purchase of government bonds and corporate bonds and will stop completely on December 31. In the longer term, if the program ends, it means that key interest rates could start rising again.
