Question to general practitioner Maarten: Diabetic and higher values
I have been diabetic 2 for several years. My medications are as follows: 2 tablets Unidiamecron in the morning sober, 1000 mg Glucophage after breakfast and Forxiga in the evening. Although my eating habits and medication use have not changed, my measurement in the morning is higher than before. No problem during the day, then I even have to be careful that it doesn't get too low. Previously I was always around 90 in the morning. Now this is usually around 120. How do you explain this? Could this be due to stress?
Ask general practitioner Maarten: Angina pectoris and dizziness after nitrate pills
I am a woman of 68, I suffer from angina pectoris several times a year. The cardiologist gave me tablets for this. Since it only occurs every 5 to 6 months, I don't need it often. Last week, however, it was more intense than usual, so I put one of those tablets under my tongue. After about 5 minutes it got better. However, then I became terribly dizzy. Then my blood pressure turned out to be extremely low.
Question to GP Maarten: Blocked blood vessel and expensive medicines
A swollen left leg was diagnosed as dangerous after an ultrasound because of a blocked blood vessel. I was admitted to the BPH and stayed there for 3 days with a lot of medication that had to be injected. If they worked, I was allowed to continue to heal at home with medicines to be taken orally.

Question to GP Maarten: High cholesterol and statins
I did the cholesterol test for the last time in the Netherlands last year, will email the results later. I've been living in Thailand since January this year and only take my 80mg statin when I've eaten fat. Can I continue with this or do I have to start taking them every day again?
Normally I use my medicines here, which I brought with me from the Netherlands, including Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg. With this medicine I keep my blood pressure nicely between 125 and 130. Suppress 70. When I don't use the medicine, the pressure goes to between 140 and 155. Suppress the same. It's about to run out and I've started using the means of GPO. It does nothing.
Question to GP Maarten: To get a flu shot or not?
I have a question regarding the flu shot. Everyone advises me to get the flu vaccine. I am 79 years old and have never had a flu shot. My question to you is should I do this, or are you saying don't do it given the side effect?
Question to general practitioner Maarten: Medication against high blood pressure and cholesterol
My stock of Prareduct 40 mg from Daiichi-Sankyo (cholesterol) and Olmetec 40 mg (blood pressure), from the same company, was exhausted within a few weeks. For years, this medication has ensured that the results of my medical checkups are perfect and that everything is well under control.
For several years now I have noticed that I can hardly eat anything in the evening, otherwise I will only sleep a few hours.
Question to general practitioner Maarten: Tied to sleeping pills to get a healthy night's sleep
Unfortunately, I am tied to sleeping pills to get a healthy night's sleep. In the more than 25 years that I lived in Spain, I was able to buy Stilnox 10 mg (zolpidem) sleeping tablets at the local pharmacy, which charged 30 euros for 4 pieces and were even reimbursed by my health insurance.
Ask general practitioner Maarten: I can't buy Tamsolusin anywhere!
I can't buy Tamsolusin anywhere! Now I have a question, since I'm getting more and more dizzy every day and I don't have to go to the urologist until next month, which I don't like to do! I have read that there are also things like Prostatpro for sale. Is that or something like that? They don't appear to be "drugs". They don't seem to be medicines but a kind of vitamins.

Question to general practitioner Maarten: Advice on medication use
In May 2019 I used Teevir for 1 month. After 1 month I got yellow skin and stopped taking medication. The hospital then prescribed me Legalon 140 (silymarin) which I also used for a while.
I am 83 and recently suffered a stroke. Other than that I don't smoke and drank a beer now and then. 20 years ago I had a heart attack. I have no further complaints.
Question to general practitioner Maarten: Chest pain at night
I am 80 years old, healthy, a little overweight, blood test results good, but I have had chest pains for years and it is getting worse. The strange thing is that I only feel that pain at night when I'm trying to sleep. What could be the cause of that?
I spend most of the year in Thailand and a few months a year in the Netherlands. When I'm in Thailand I always have to go to the toilet about 3 times at night. When I'm in the Netherlands it doesn't bother me, at most once a night.
