The annual report of the Thai National Health Service reveals which conditions are treated most frequently. Hypertension, diabetes and metabolic disorders dominate outpatient care, while infections and pneumonia account for many hospital admissions. These insights guide new health promotion and prevention strategies to strengthen public health in Thailand.
Since switching to Enalapril I have been suffering from tickly cough, but in recent months it has become really severe attacks of cough, several times a day/night, which cannot be stopped with lubricants and licorice-like dragees.
I am a man of 72 years, 178 cm, and 91 kg heavy. I don't smoke, an occasional drink, no beer or wine. I like to drink coffee (filter, cups) no tea, but water again. Exercise moderately, but still a half to full hour of fitness a few times a week.
Ask your GP Maarten: Combo antihypertensive agent
I normally take 100mg of prenolol (atenolol) per day. However, my systolic pressure rarely falls below 170, the negative pressure stays around 90.
Sometimes I increase the atenolol to 150 mg. This hardly helps. Fatigue prevails.
Fish sauce is a popular condiment in many cuisines around the world, especially in Asian cuisine and certainly in Thailand. It is often used to add depth and umami to a wide variety of dishes. While fish sauce can add a lot to a dish's flavor, it's important to note that it can also contain a potentially unhealthy amount of salt.
Question to GP Maarten: Increased blood pressure again
After a period of perfect blood pressure I haven't checked it for the last 2 months. For a week I have around 175/100/65 in the morning My situation has not changed, I moved to a quieter environment and lost 8 kg, now 119 kg at 200 cm.
Currently I take 1 Rasilez 150mg in the morning for high blood pressure. When inquiring at the pharmacy here, she told me that this drug was unknown. My blood pressure is currently between 140/75 and 145/80. Can I stop taking this medicine or do I have to take a medicine and which one?
Question to GP Maarten: High blood pressure and medication?
Blood pressure remains a problem… after the debacle of the Exforge HCT 10mg / 160mg / 12,5mg which gave me the much too low blood pressure of around 80/60, I went back on my old meds.
Question to GP Maarten: Is Lisinopril available in Thailand without a prescription?
My wife is on the blood pressure lowering drug Lisinopril 10mg. Due to family circumstances, she will most likely stay longer in Thailand. She then does not have enough medication for that longer period of time.

A recent study shows that the sodium (salt) intake of Thai children is almost five times higher than the recommended safe level. Something needs to be done say concerned doctors.
Salty food in Thailand
In the eighties I was medically examined for a new job, which showed that my blood pressure was a bit high. The medical examiner advised me to reduce my salt consumption, in fact, he commented that, as far as he was concerned, salt should never have been “invented”.
Question to GP Maarten: My blood pressure remains high
I regularly check my blood pressure but it has been on the high side lately. Usually I don't get below 160/90 with a heart rate below 60.
Question to general practitioner Maarten: Medication against high blood pressure and cholesterol
My stock of Prareduct 40 mg from Daiichi-Sankyo (cholesterol) and Olmetec 40 mg (blood pressure), from the same company, was exhausted within a few weeks. For years, this medication has ensured that the results of my medical checkups are perfect and that everything is well under control.
I still have high blood pressure (average 150/80) Since Triplaxam has 3 ingredients, wouldn't it be better to try another remedy with 1 ingredient that is available in Thailand?
A recent article in Reuters (www.reuters.com/) describes that the corona virus binds to an enzyme ACE2 that is stimulated by antihypertensive drugs. I am diabetic (71 years old, HbA1c 5.9, BMI 23.7, blood pressure 116/64, eGFR 99) and on the advice of my doctor I also take Losartan 25mg/day. Before starting Losartan my blood pressure was around 125/80.
First of all I would like to thank you for the detailed answer. I would like to respond one more time. You provide extensive advice and useful tips about pain relief during migraines. However, my feeling is that the attacks are due to the change in medication (from Lisinopril to Lispril) so I would like to focus on possibly another drug than Lispril, if the reduction to 5 Mg does not have the desired effect.
Ask for your answer on 07-01-2019, there you say use the calcium blocker Amlodipine instead of Losartan 50 mg. But which one should I take? You have Amlodipine 5 and 10 mg.
I am 77 years old and have been taking DIOVAN 10 mg for 80 years to lower my blood pressure. Every morning I exercise 7,5 km and (already 5 years) and when I use Diovan my blood pressure is between 110/65/65 and 125/73/70. Now I have stopped taking Diovan.
I have a question about switching from Zanidip to losartan. Use Zanidip 20 mg per day for some time, blood pressure now 130/80. Have thick ankles now, think of the Zanidip. Want to switch to losartan. Is that possible without danger?
Question to general practitioner Maarten: I take a lot of medicines for high blood pressure and diabetes, is that necessary?
I really wonder whether the complaints I have just described require all those medicines. My doctor here in Thailand said when asked that all those medicines are indeed necessary. My question, are the drugs mentioned really all necessary for the mentioned ailments or could I omit a few without risk?
Question to GP Maarten: Alternative to expensive medicine against high blood pressure?
I take medication for high blood pressure: Olmetec 40 mg (olmesartan medoxomil). This medication appears to be quite expensive in Thailand (30 pills for 1.100 Baht). My question is whether there is a cheaper and well-functioning alternative available in Thailand?
