Bitter rice in Thailand

For the past three weeks, my wife Poopae has been in her village in Isan to help with the rice harvest. Her mother and other relatives near where she lives have pieces of land on which rice is grown, which is harvested in November. A large group of people – all “brothers and sisters” – from the village participate in that harvest, not only on their own piece of land, but they help each other to bring in the rice.
