Smoking ban on the beaches of Pattaya

It is always curious to see that the various governments in Thailand do not communicate and are not on the same page. The different approaches and interpretations at the various Immigration offices are well known.

The latest smoking ban imposed on 20 of Thailand's beaches, including Pattaya and Jomtien, was also not implemented by Pattaya on November 1. On November 22, information was given to the beach keepers and tourist officials through a forced campaign by, among others, city clerk Wuthipol Charoenpol. Due to circumstances and unpreparedness of local officials, the ban was postponed until February 1, 2018. Clear information will now be provided to beach visitors. The local government has promised to take care of this, so that beach visitors are not unexpectedly confronted with a sky-high fine of 100.000 baht or even a year in prison due to ignorance of this smoking ban.

However, Pattaya City Council acknowledges the criticism of this ban and is requesting permission to designate an area of each local beach as a smoking zone. No approval has yet been given for this because permission will first have to be given and then it will have to be examined which zones are eligible for this. How the municipality will deal with the alcohol ban on the beach is another chapter. All umbrellas distributed free of charge to the beach holders with Chang (beer) as the inscription have been removed.

Big Brother keeps a close eye on the municipality of Pattaya. In defense, the local government argued that the Chang concern also sells water!

That's why life in Thailand is so much fun!

Will be busy on those parts where smoking is allowed.

Not at all. Smoking is already prohibited in public buildings (such as my university) and on public roads; there are designated smoking areas and also at the airport. What is the result: only the chain smokers still smoke in these places, the other smokers wait until they are home to light a cigarette or cigar. And I expect that will also happen on the beach.

        Feel free to dream on.

You have no other choice in the places you mentioned. If you have the choice between smoking and non-smoking on the beach, it is very different.

Just like in the past that the smoking part of the plane was full much faster than the non-smoking part of the plane.

Informing beach visitors about a smoking ban is of little use if new tourists arrive a month later.
That will have to be a continuous process.

This can and will happen through the well-known prohibition signs or did you think that a look will be opened with officials who speak to every smoker / tourist or not separately.

There is now a 1 km strip on Dongtan Beach Jomtien where smoking is not allowed. Forbidden!
But right behind the seats there are smoking areas everywhere, with stools, large bucket of sand for the butts.
So from your seat you walk 5 meters, and you can smoke.
Further along the entire beach of Pattaya and Jomtien Beach it is allowed to smoke, except for that small part along Dongtan Beach, and even only a part of it…
    The logic is lost!

I wonder what they will do with the football clubs in the Thai Premier League, almost all of which play with advertising and a logo of Chang beer, Leo beer or Singha beer on their shirt.

    This is typical Thailand…..
It would have been better to place an ashtray on every beach table because as a smoker you really don't go to a beach (for me Pattaya Beach) and then go to the smoking area to be able to smoke there and go to a beach chair again.
Light a cigarette on the beach and after three puffs it is finished because the wind has already claimed most of it and I speak from experience.
Thailand has so many rules and every official has his own vision and explanation so that you never know where you stand at the counter anywhere because with one official you need proof A as stated first and when you appear at the counter and another official has to help you, so his version is simply brought up that you must be able to show another piece of evidence…while my wife has clearly asked before….but This Is Thailand (TIT)
The exhaust fumes to mention………that is another problem and not to forget plastic bags….
    you name it……

I have lived in Jomtien for 10 years and have been coming to Dongtan Beach (Gay Beach) for 10 years, and everyone who smokes ALWAYS gets their own ashtray on their table. Never seen a butt in the sand…
and precisely that part, must be smoke-free, and not the rest, not Jomtien Beach, not Pattaya, etc!

Here on Koh Lanta there is a smoking ban on the beaches and if you take a car ferry there are about 8-10 Thai drivers smoking 2-3 cigarettes and then in the water and they don't come to the beach ???

In fact, it's simple…. no smoking on the beach?!
Then just get out of the chair, knees into the sea
    and put one on there.
It is not mentioned anywhere that you are not allowed to smoke in the sea 🙂

Well great advice thank you Ronny L on behalf of the animals in the water.

they impose an insane ban (which has already been laughed at in several countries, see Faebook). One feels rightly (as a smoker a 'criminal') that they have been deprived of their freedom. However, I do not leave plastic bags or food waste on the beach or in the sea. That is very different from a cigarette butt! I would add that I ALWAYS have (had) an ashtray next to me and never threw a cigarette in the sand.
