I see many old Thai people living alone in my area, usually the family keeps an eye on things, but whether it is possible is another matter. Are there state retirement homes in Thailand where people can spend their old age?

Do Thais know little or nothing about food safety?

I am surprised that my wife knows so little about food safety. If she is going to prepare chicken, she will leave it on the counter for an hour. I'll put it back in the fridge. When I say that a lot of bacteria quickly grow in this heat, she looks at me as if she sees water burning. The same goes for washing hands before preparing food and using dishcloths for a week.

Since last Friday I'm staying in the hospital because of a severe lung infection due to… sewage gas. Given the diversity of “sewage bacteria” in my lungs, I have to stay here for at least another 10 days, the first group of bacteria has disappeared, so that the intense fever that is difficult to combat with paracetamol is now also gone.

This week I went to the Thai embassy twice to obtain a non-immigrant visa for 90 days: 1 entry. The first time they said they couldn't process it because I didn't have a bank statement stating balance with me. OK, will. Went back today with bank statement. Balance around € 12.000 Was not enough again. Now a statement of retirement was requested.

No, Rutger Hauer's sudden death has nothing to do with Thailand. But many of his peers, including me, now live in Thailand and will not only muse about their own lives that lie behind them, but also about the pleasure Rutger has given them in his long film career.

We have been going to Thailand on a visa O for a number of years for 90 days with single entry. Income requirement was not a problem. My husband will receive an AOW and small pension from this month, so that our net income will be around € 1.200. I myself have no income, I have not yet reached the state pension age. Is it possible to obtain a 90-day visa or will we still have to make an overstay? Can apply for the visa of course, but maybe we will have lost our € 120.

If you see military columns passing by today on the route from Suwansorn Road in Muang Nakhon Nayok via the highway towards Bangkok and there along Ramindra Road, Chaeng Wattana, Rama VI and Pradipat to the base of the Third Cavalry Regiment, don't be alarmed! It has nothing to do with another coup.

On July 17, I posted this article on thailandblog hoping to interest some readers in the Thai language. After the earlier Thai lessons of Rob V, especially about the Thai vowels and consonants, this seemed like a valuable addition. There were quite a few critical reactions to the article.

I would like information about how to proceed if you want a divorce? I got married in Thailand and then had it legalized at the Belgian embassy. So I am legally married also for Belgian law. Currently I live back in Belgium with my son. What is the procedure to divorce from here? Do I need to get a lawyer for this?

Problem, I unexpectedly go to the Netherlands next week. Dutch driving license has expired since May and the time is now too short to apply for a new one. I only have a Thai driving license for 1 year (first 2 years is temporary) can I drive in the Netherlands with this? So expired Dutch + new Thai driving license.

It is very hot, the sun is burning mercilessly. Moreover, there is a high humidity due to the heavy rain showers last night. The hope that they would continue to fall during the day has been dashed. Yet those rains are the signal to throw the extra manure on the rice fields of the sweet. Control had already shown that it is badly needed, the culms turn yellow at the tops, too few nutrients. Hopefully there is a layer of water so that the fertilizer can do its job and does not burn the plants.

Due to a 1500 baht fine last year for being late in reporting where I live, I prefer to be prepared now. Due to my stay in Belgium from 25/06/2019 to 21/07/2019, I wonder what I should or should not do the next day to stay okay.
