My name is Jurgen (43 years old) and I live in the Netherlands. During my stay in Thailand (last winter) I met my Thai girlfriend (42 years old).

I am going to file a complaint with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about the too long waiting time for an appointment at the Thai office of VFS Global to submit a Schengen visa application for the Netherlands (Unit 404 and 405, The Plaza 4th Floor, Chamchuri Square Building, Phaya Thai Rd, Pathum Wan, Bangkok 10330, Thailand).

At the moment I have been waiting for more than 4 weeks for the decision of a 90-day Schengen visa for my Thai girlfriend to the Netherlands. This is after submitting via VSF where everything was approved.

I recently read that so many Schengen visas are rejected by the Netherlands and Belgium. Here my experience.

Recently, the editors of Thailandblog and Rob V. have heard an increasing number of reports of visa rejections for the Netherlands. These rejections often concern relatively small or remarkable things. For example: the lack of a telephone number with a hotel booking, that a flight reservation with KLM had expired (the flight in question was even canceled by KLM without the knowledge of the applicant) and even someone who comes to the Netherlands year after year and now suddenly hears gets that the “motivation of the trip is unclear”.

I have been married to a Thai woman for 13 years, have my own home in Belgium and here in Thailand we built a house. Next year our grandchild (from my Thai wife) will be 8 years old and we would like to take her to Belgium for a month (April, warmest month in Thailand and school leave), and make it a nice holiday. Are there any special visa requirements? I myself have a retired visa.

On 23/04 you published the account of the visa application for my girlfriend. See the sequel here: The answer to the visa application, made at the office of TLS in Bangkok, came in the mail today: "Refused". My girlfriend already had a visa in 2018.

Good news for everyone in Thailand who regularly applies for a Schengen visa. The European Commission is working on the possibility of applying for a Schengen visa online and replacing the visa sticker. This digitization should put an end to the bureaucratic and cumbersome method that is currently used.

Would have liked to take my girlfriend on holiday to Belgium. I have known her for 3 years and have been living together in Phuket for 1,5 years. We have engaged a visa office to get through the paperwork. Apparently I couldn't take her with me because I was in Thailand with her.

The visa application for my girlfriend for a short stay in the Netherlands has been rejected on the basis of the risk that she will not return to the Netherlands in time. The embassy assumes bad intentions as standard, I think.

In response to a question about the rejection of a Schengen visa, Rob V. made inquiries at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Netherlands. It is unclear whether the temporary arrangement for long-distance loved ones still applies, now that fully vaccinated Thais are allowed to travel to the Netherlands with a valid vaccination certificate.

My 27 year old son has a 25 year old girlfriend in Udon Thani and she has applied for a Schengen visa to come to the Netherlands for the first time in December. For family visits and to be with him during the holidays. Now the embassy has rejected the visa application because they say she can only leave for necessary travel now.
That is of course a big disappointment for them.
