Reader question: What is the cost of Visa C for living together with a Thai in Belgium?
I read a reader's question on this blog in connection with an application for a visa C in order to legally cohabit with a Thai girlfriend in Belgium. Now, with the application of the visa C it will work. But I would like to know how much the entire cost will be approximately. Such as applying for visa C, translating documents, medical health check in a recognized hospital, integration course in Belgium, language course in Belgium, and so on.
Reader submission: AOW punishes love!
My girlfriend arrived in the Netherlands after 6,5 months at the beginning of April with an MVV. After 10 days she was able to add herself to my address in the population register. What my surprise is that my state pension for a single person of € 1.218,19 net per month will be reduced to € 832,86 as a result of cohabitation. Including holiday money, that saves me about € 5.000 net per year. I found that out unexpectedly.
My Thai girlfriend wants to live with me in my condo (property). In fact, she comes to my condo every day after work, but she still has her own condo. This at my request (just in case). However, she wants to save money, which I understand, because we are always together anyway. However, my fear is that cohabitation will give her certain rights under Thai law. I don't think this is a problem in the long run, but I'm not that far yet. Partly in view of my 4 to 5 months of travel per year, while she stays in my condo, I have my doubts about any rights she may acquire to anything.
