Reader question: From Krabi to Koh Lanta

In August we will travel around Thailand. We would like to travel from Krabi to Railey and then on to Koh Lanta. Now we have read that this is only possible in the rainy season from Krabi to Ao Nang and then by longboat to Railey. Is this correct? And are we sure we can reach Railey in August? If we want to go from Railey to Lanta, do we always have to go back via Krabi?

It must be about ten years ago that I last visited the Phi Phi Islands, within sailing distance of the resort of Ao Nang near Krabi. Because my friend Raysiya's son was doing an internship for three months in an extremely luxurious hotel near Krabi, a visit to the islands was obvious.

In 2 weeks me and my girlfriend will leave for Thailand for a month. But what we would like to know now is where you can sleep in a house/hut right on the beach in Krabi. Does anyone happen to have experience with this?

I would like to go to Thailand with my 14 year old daughter in December. It's a surprise for her!! We arrive on December 18 and after that I want to fly directly to Chiang Mai. Around the 22nd, 23rd I would like to go to Koh Samui to do the three islands and of course the pink dolphins.
