A “different” girl from the Isaan
Well, how many clichés have already appeared on this blog about the girls from the Isaan? The ladies from this area, ravaged by poverty, lack of work, and bad experiences with Thai men, come to Pattaya to get a farang (with money).
My sometimes asks me: "Walter, is it a bit quiet there, where you live?" My answer: “Well yes, I live in a cul-de-sac, so that makes a difference. As everywhere, the street vendors pass by here. Between 6.15 am and 6.30 am the first ones are already there. Noodles, vegetables, fruits, meat and fish. Then you have the iced coffee. One with plastic cups and saucers, one with all sorts of brooms and of course also the Ice cream Nestlé…
Prime Minister Prayut pledged an amount of 68 billion for development projects in Isaan at a meeting in Nakhon Ratchasima. According to the Bangkok Post, the Isaaners are nevertheless not cheering.
Going to live in Isaan (part 2)
The Inquisitor has become a commuter. About every two weeks about 850 km back and forth between Pattaya and an unsightly village northwest of Sakhun Nakon. And he begins to discover Isaan. The first period he still sleeps in the parental home of the girlfriend, it even seems to become a bit of a home.
Go live in the Isan
After the decision to move to the Thai Boezewush, De Inquisitor realizes that there is work to be done. A lot of work. Done with the debauched life there in Pattaya.
Isan Medical Center
The Inquisitor has pain, quite a lot, in his lower back. After the second day it started to disturb his sleep. But the Inquisitor also has a weakness: doctor phobia squared. How does that continue?
Life as a Single Farang in the Jungle: From the South to Isaan 9. Reflection and conclusion
Up at 6 am, no problem for Lung Addie. Once the day dawns, he is, as usual, already out of bed. He wants to leave at 7 o'clock because it will be a long drive and wants to drive as little as possible in the dark. It really wouldn't be disturbing if there had to be some distance in the dark as Lung addie would already be on familiar territory.
Isaanland
The Inquisitor writes in a mix of joy and surprise about the expats in two camps: the Isaaners and the non-Isaaners. What is it with Isaan? Why is this region so controversial? Why so many comments about these people?
Today, Wednesday, is my last day in Roi Et. There is very little on the program as Lung addie wants to keep it quiet because of the long way back to his homestay, in the South, tomorrow. A ride of about 950 km awaits and you can start well rested.
Today is “tourist day”. Since my stay here in Roi Et is very limited to a few days, a strict selection has to be made of what MUST be seen, which you certainly should not have missed when you come to a certain region. My host, Louis, who has been living in Roi Et for several years, and what I honestly call a very good choice on his part, advises me to visit one, according to him, …
After a hearty breakfast from the resort to Nong Ki Lek to say goodbye to my Mae Baan's family. We can all take it easy because from here to the destination in Roi Et my Lady Garmin indicates barely 252km. Not far so by Thai standards.
Living as a Single Farang in the Jungle: From the South to Isaan (Day 4) rectification
When the article “From the South to Isaan. Day 4 “ of Lung addie appeared on the blog last week I was once again on “marode”. This time not so far from home, but to Hua Hin, to meet a Belgian former neighbor who stayed there for a few days. Lung addie had planned to spend 5 days without telephone and internet. This is why he couldn't respond to the reactions his "Day 4" article provoked.
As indicated earlier, today is a relaxing day with some sightseeing. I have been here several times in the region, but never really took the time to get to know or visit the region a little better.
Work went very well yesterday. What will it be today? You never know what can happen here in this world and not only in Thailand. If things go as planned today, I'll be done by noon. By the way, there is not that much to do then: bricking in 11 flush-mounted boxes and bricking up the tube tracks.
Today the work starts. Getting up early, starting early means being able to stop early. Lung addie has a schedule and wants to finish the work in two days. This should certainly be possible without setbacks, because an installation in a Thai house cannot be compared to that in a house in our home country.
It's been a while since Lung Addie has been to the Valhalla of Thailand. The last time he came was at the 100 day death commemoration of the mother of the Mae Baan van Lung addie. Now it is again necessary to go there. The place to be is in Buriram province, Lahan Sai, tambon Nong Ki Lek. A good 800 km from the home port of Chumphon, so a nice day trip.
Robert is surprised about cremations. 'A cremation is a bigger celebration than a birthday.'
