According to my girlfriend, many Thai people are dissatisfied with the corona situation in Thailand. There are virtually no infections and deaths and yet the entire country has to be locked. Many Thais are angry because the government is letting them down. The 5.000 baht does not reach the poorest people. They also only get it once. Many are still waiting or getting nothing. You can read on social media that they are completely fed up with this government and they have to leave. If necessary by force. My girlfriend thinks there will be riots if this goes on too long. Thais say they are more afraid of the poverty and hunger that awaits them than of corona.

You can't get out and are too much on each other's lips and that can degenerate into squabbles with each other; that's how I read. After a week in quarantine I'm starting to get a little bit of it too. Can't leave the house and trapped in my girlfriend's house.

Be positive and don't complain. In these difficult times, that's the best thing you can do. After talking about “the Dirty Farang” it is better to give a rebuttal in your doings. The minister is somewhat right, just like everywhere in the world there are many wrong figures.

The corona virus is disrupting a lot in Thailand. Very, very many people without work and therefore no income. Currently I'm helping out a bit at North Gate Jazz in Chiang Mai by handing out free meals. There appears to be a strong need as more than 300 people use it.

Emotions surrounding the corona crisis seem to be running high. Just look at the discussion about the sense or nonsense of face masks on this blog. And then the virologists who constantly contradict each other. Another point: Is the WHO really that independent or more of a political organization? Are the experts really that knowledgeable or are there also commercial interests, such as a well-known virologist who at the time had shares in a company that makes flu vaccines? Why is China now buying up shares worldwide for next to nothing, and are they still benefiting from the corona crisis?

It will not have escaped anyone's attention that in this Covid crisis it is "all hands on deck" at all embassies and consulates of the Netherlands, anywhere in the world. I was curious about the ins and outs at the Dutch embassy in Bangkok, I even wanted to spend a day with them to get an impression of how the ambassador and his staff are tackling this unprecedented challenge. Of course I couldn't follow along, if only because I can't and am not allowed to travel to Bangkok, but I was advised to ask a number of questions, which they would answer.
