This week there was a question on the Thailand blog about exchanging Thai money for Dutch money. This usually involves not too large amounts. Exchange offices often bring the outcome. But now a question to readers of Thailand blog: When I leave Thailand permanently and do not return for the first few years, can I also close my visa account (bank account with the visa amount of 800.000 baht!)? To take the equivalent value in cash in euros is quite something. Exchanging private money in Thailand is not an option! Need a lot of bank paper and statements from bank / customs. (max. export and/or import 10.000 Euro).

There have already been several reports about the letter of termination from ABN-AMRO, and this was also discussed in the comments that were posted with the report about Unive. I myself had also responded that I had not received a letter and that I had visited the bank in April and asked how that was.

The Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) warns the public against the so-called 'lending' of their own bank accounts and debit cards to people they have come into contact with through advertisements on Facebook. These fraudsters promise compensation or high interest for this. In reality, it usually involves money laundering.

Yesterday I received the message that ABN AMRO will unilaterally end our very long banking relationship within 6 months. This is partly due to cost considerations and the desire to focus more on the European market.

Some time ago it was reported on this blog that ABN AMRO will close the accounts of people living outside the EU. I have asked ABN AMRO for clarification on this. To that I received an answer. Recent reports on this blog that things will not go that fast turn out to be unfounded. I wish anyone affected by this a successful search for something else.

I am looking for a bank in Thailand where I can open a euro account. But in such a way that I can possibly withdraw, preferably by means of an ATM Card, then it will automatically become Bahtjes, but also that I can transfer/refund Euro amounts to the Netherlands (my main requirement).

Nowadays, in Belgium, foreign bank account numbers must be passed on to the tax authorities. Foreign account information would be passed on by some 75 countries to the tax authorities of the account holder's place of residence. Does Thailand also belong here?
