I have some questions about the visa I have obtained. I am currently staying in Thailand (Pattaya) on the basis of a Tourist Visa multiple entry. On November 5 I have to leave the country after 60 days and can then come back for another period of 60 days. I know I can also extend that initial period of 60 days by 30 days here in Jomtien, but that doesn't fit my schedule, so I may not use it.

I would like to know if you might be able to come to Koh Kong with a fast catamaran from Koh Samui? Or maybe Poipet (Cambodia) from Koh Samui is a better option for some border runs?

The capital of Cambodia, located in the southeast of the country, cannot be compared to any other city. Actually quite normal because countries can hardly be compared with each other. Gunboat diplomacy is, I think, one of those words that must be a wet dream of any avid scrabble player. In 1893 Siam fell victim to this very special form of diplomacy.

Have you ever been to Cambodia to visit the Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, the almost thousand-year-old temple, the world's largest religious building? Still a long journey from Thailand and it would have been close to seeing the Angkor Wat in Bangkok, more or less on the spot where the Central World now stands.

As a regular visitor to Thailand, I also enjoy visiting neighboring countries Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos. During my last trip to Cambodia, due to Corona, it was already more than two years ago, I had to think of the regular blog column 'You experience all kinds of things in Thailand'. But in fact, Thailand is not alone in this.

As an officer in the naval infantry, he served in the Far East from 1869, especially in Cochinchine, present-day Vietnam. Intrigued by the history and culture of the indigenous people, he began learning Cambodian after meeting the Khmer minority in Tra Vinh province.

The biggest attraction of Cambodia is undoubtedly Siem Reap with the Angkor Wat temple, built in the 12th century, located within the imposing remains of Ankor, the capital of the former immense Khmer empire, which, in addition to present-day Cambodia, also includes large parts of Thailand, Vietnam and Laos. belonged.

My question is about extending a residence permit in Thailand for my Cambodian girlfriend. She has been living in Thailand for over 25 years and every other year she has to renew her residence permit (visa). She then hands over her passport to an acquaintance and after payment and some waiting, she gets her passport back with the new necessary stamps after a few weeks.

In a previous article I briefly discussed Prasat Phanom Rung and the way in which this Khmer temple complex was upgraded to Thai national cultural-historical heritage. In the margins of this story I briefly referred to Prasat Praeh Vihear to illustrate the complexity of the relationship between the experience of identity and history. Today I would like to go into the history of Praeh Vihear, for many in Thailand a lot of stumbling blocks…
