Started this project with no idea where it would end. Starting point: a house that fits in the Isan architectural style, but with that little bit of luxury that every Farang attaches value to. A decent toilet, a bathroom with a real shower and good sleeping accommodation.

About 6 years ago, my Thai partner and I decided to build a house in Nakhon Nayok province. At that time we lived in Australia and it looked like we would return to the Netherlands or Thailand in a year's time.
"A day in the life of…. Sjaak S”
I liked the idea and wrote a story, but I find it difficult. So many things happen in one day and yet very little. So I wrote it again. Every event consists of various parts. For me, every day is “same same, but different”.

In 2004, my wife and I bought a large piece of land (13 rai) in a hamlet near Nong Sang in Nongbualamphu province, with the plan to build a house in the following years.
Unhealthy Thailand
For many, Thailand is the land of the sun that is meant to refuel during a well-deserved holiday for the hard-working Dutchman from the awake Netherlands. Sometimes, however, you get the chance to get a glimpse into an aspect of the country that you were less familiar with until then.

Our “vacation” house is located about 50 km from Surin (and only a few km from Tunggular lake) in the countryside.
"A day in the life of………"
I have a proposal for a new section. Maybe it would be nice if readers or employees of Thailandblog just describe a day of their life in Thailand. Preferably a recent day. It doesn't have to be exciting or excessive. Personally, I'm quite curious how a farang spends his days in Thailand.
The Helpfulness of the Thai People… (Reader Submission)
During our recent stay in Thailand, my wife and I experienced the true nature of Thai hospitality during our cycling tours. With newly purchased mountain bikes we explored the flat roads around Cha Am and Hua Hin, quickly covering more than 1.000 kilometers. Hereby our contribution to “House Watching”. Our house is in NongPrue (6 km behind Pattaya). Despite the 2.5 meter high separation wall, we still have an unobstructed view towards Pattaya and Jomtien Beach because it is built on a hill.

It is now 22 years ago that I met the Thai T. We lived together for 10 years and with her I have a 20-year-old son who has been living with me for 9 years now. With a clear conscience I can say that with her nothing is (still) what it seems. Read the story of Lung Ruud.

Online shopping; a blessing to mankind and so tasty (readers' entry)
I regularly see posts here about the great Thai cuisine and recipes to make that delicious Thai food yourself. Sometimes I also read something about the obsession of the Thai people when it comes to food.
