"A day in the life of…. Sjaak S”
I liked the idea and wrote a story, but I find it difficult. So many things happen in one day and yet very little. So I wrote it again. Every event consists of various parts. For me, every day is “same same, but different”.
Four o'clock: get up.
To make coffee.
Greet cat.
Six o'clock, half past seven: squeezing orange juice for my wife.
Half past seven: exercising with my Virtual Reality headset, the Quest3. Les Mills Body Combat followed by an hour on the cross trainer with Holofit, during which I do a number of laps through Paris, old Japan, the future or space. You can collect trophies and score points. I have currently been in first place among the Dutch for months and this month in 10th place worldwide. There are a few thousand players, so either they are all not very good or I am... who knows?
But… I also go to Pak Nam Praan twice a week with my two cycling buddies to have coffee. Then we are about four hours away from home and we can catch up. Those bike rides are always fun.
Last year I started intermittent fasting and I really like it. So I have breakfast around XNUMX:XNUMX and eat my last meal around XNUMX:XNUMX. Then nothing more until the next morning. I lost a lot of weight and barely regained it after a year.
In the afternoon we sometimes go to Hua Hin to eat there and do some shopping for my wife's shop.
We are back home in the afternoon and my wife opens the shop.
If I have nothing to do in the garden, I play fun games on my VR headset or watch interesting documentaries on the internet. I also found a very good course that helps me learn Thai. I had already completed Pimsleur's course and looked for audio lessons for a while, but didn't find anything decent until I came across podcast101. I really like this course and started it this week. I'm starting from the beginning again and am now on lesson two. So I still have a long way to go.
I do the audio part, which actually takes up the most time, while walking on the elliptical in the morning. They are each 12-minute lessons, which I repeat afterwards. And I do this until I can normally understand Thai and pronounce it myself. There are currently maybe four new words and new combinations of words that I didn't know before per lesson. Very nicely done. Of course not for people who do not speak the English language.
Towards the evening it is time for a nice movie or an episode of a series, which I project on my terrace at home with my projector. I don't have a TV (my wife does) and I download my films and series from the internet. Good quality, no advertising.
I hardly go out in the evening anymore. I do not feel like it. My wife doesn't have time either. But once a month I go out to Hua Hin for dinner with two friends. Then we look for a good restaurant where the two other gentlemen can drink their wine. I don't drink wine myself, but I do like a caipirinha or a rum and cola. But that remains with one glass at the beginning of the evening, because I am also the driver. Besides, it's enough for me.
This week there was a small change. A French acquaintance is currently a bit short on cash and had an electric (motor) bicycle for sale. His wife asked my wife if we were interested. I don't really need one of those things, but I wanted to help him out a little. So we bought that thing from him. Well, you can't drive it faster than 24 km/h, because then the battery will be empty. Oh well, maybe I'll give the device to my in-laws... they might find a buyer or use it themselves.
We're usually back in bed around nine o'clock and the lights go out at ten o'clock… that's why…
Four o'clock: get up.
Making coffee.
Greet cat.
Six o'clock, half past seven: squeezing orange juice for my wife.
And so on… same same, but different…

Hello Sjaak, you are having a great time reading this. I feel like I know you and am currently in Thailand. If so, please let us know
A beautiful life, that's often all it should be.
Thanks for sharing it with us.
Nice gesture too, helping your cash-strapped friends a little.
Top. Enjoy your Sunday.
Bert & Penneke.
Thanks for the nice insight into your day. It's good for you to read this
Sjaak S, nice to read how you spend your days
You have expressed wonderfully how a day goes in your case. I hope that your writing will also inspire others to put “a day in the life of…” on paper.
Dear Jack,
Nicely written and gives an interesting insight into other people's daily concerns.
Is there a special reason why you get up at 4am? And what do you do between 04:00 AM and 06:00 AM?
Greetings, James
Sjaak has a busy life...he forgets that he also bakes cake for his cycling friends...has to maintain a fish pond and is still busy building his own jacuzzi...it's a good time in Thailand...tomorrow our trip again...then it's wine. most expensive for Hollandse Sjaak and my person... around €35 per bottle... but that's why the food is cheap and tasty... once a month should be possible with Limburgse Sjaak as driver.
which projector are you using and does it have sound?
Sjaak, thank you for sharing your story/daily rhythm. From the looks of it, you are having a great time in Thailand and are doing very well. You take good care of your body and your mind when I read this. I think I would be very happy later if I could spend my days like this. What I do wonder is why you get up so early? You go to bed early and apparently get about 6 hours a night. Maybe you also take a nap somewhere during the day? It seems like so little sleep to me this way.
