I usually follow Thailand blog and often read the stories and also read the reactions, sometimes good but also often negative reactions. I have never written anything on Thailandblog but I think it is appropriate to write something now in this very difficult time. Is more of a personal story about how I experience paradise and looking back at the reason for my departure from the Netherlands.
Life in our village continues quietly, no corona reports. The rules have been expanded somewhat, for example, the main entrance to the village is now guarded. Everyone who wants to go to the village will receive a temperature check and hand gel on their hands. Although the check is limited. Working hours are from 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. and 13.00 p.m. to 17.00 p.m., but to the eye, the village is now protected against corona invaders.

I have been staying in Thailand regularly for about 10 years and have a partner there, whom we will call Nit with Warayut, her “adult” son; they come from a small village in the Isaan, in the province of Roi-Et. The Isaners mostly come from Laos and their spoken language is Lao, and is not a dialect of Thai.

But I think that after taking such an initiative it is good to think about how to approach this. About the how, what, where, to whom, and how much.

Day 5 in quarantine: I'm in contact with my girlfriend every day now, via the app. The WiFi contact goes through the hotel network. Only the signal fluctuates strongly and sometimes she has to lie in front of the door to make contact. It's something to manage. She asked the hotel to buy her a phone card, but no response.

In the village where I stay, you can see carefully that the realization has come that this can become an unpleasant situation in the coming weeks. And that it may well take longer than a few weeks before, to name just one example, the tourists will return to Thailand.
As a result of Lung Jan's inspiring culinary series, I finally decided to put some words on paper for this blog. I am also a great fan of 'fine dining' and in the Netherlands I have visited just about every star restaurant. Since I have a relationship in Thailand, a world has opened up for me in that area as well.
