THAI Airways International (THAI) has sold fewer airline tickets in Europe but is sticking to its sales target by also competing on price. Due to the scrapping of the fuel surcharge, tickets at THAI are now 15 to 20 percent cheaper.

In the first half of the year, 10 percent fewer tickets were sold due to the recent bomb attacks in Hua Hin, among others. According to Jesada Chandrema, manager for France and Benelux, the situation is now stable and flight ticket sales are starting to pick up again.

THAI expects the target of 10 percent growth to be achieved this year. The European traveler market accounts for 20 percent of THAI's total sales. The airline has scrapped its fuel surcharge due to competition from Middle Eastern carriers who therefore offered tickets at much lower prices. That now saves 15 to 20 percent in the ticket price.

The automation system has also been improved so that it is possible to react quickly to price changes at the competitors. According to Jesada, THAI must also compete on price if they want to remain attractive to passengers.

I agree that their prices have temporarily dropped, but are still around 600 euros and not in high season
the advantage is that they do a flight without a stopover
on the other hand, at etihad or qatar I only pay between 480 and 500 euros per return flight, which still makes a big difference

I recently booked: 497 euros via Connections!!!

Indeed , that price was only available with connections (+ 12 euro costs )
I had just booked the week before at 588 euros with 2 domestic flights (to Chiang Mai)
included ) Travel period February. After contacting Thai Brussels, I was informed that the promotional price of 518 euros (via Thai office directly) was only for a very limited number of seats and that very strict restrictions applied (no refund, 500 euro costs for rebooking, etc.)
The normal price – proposed by Thai – is 700 euros
It was an action that was - completely unexpectedly - forwarded from the headquarters in Bangkok
This is to increase their market share. Taking into account that there will be a 4th direct flight out shortly
Brussels is inaugurated (end of 2016 ??)
