How long is it fly to Thailand or rather to Bangkok and why? The flight duration from the Netherlands to Thailand can vary depending on the specific departure and arrival airports chosen airline and the route of the flight. In general, a direct flight from Amsterdam to Bangkok takes about 11 to 12 hours.

If you want to fly from Belgium to Thailand, you can take a direct flight from the same time. In most cases, a direct flight from Brussels to Bangkok takes about 11 to 12 hours.

How long is the flight to Thailand (Bangkok)?

De flight duration from Netherlands to Thailand varies depending on the airport of departure and arrival and the chosen airline. On average, a direct flight from Amsterdam to Bangkok takes 11 to 12 hours. However, many flights have a stopover and therefore take longer. Consult the specific flight details of your chosen airline for precise information about the flight duration.

It is important to note that there are often stopovers on flights from the Netherlands to Thailand, and these can significantly extend the flight time. The total flight time can therefore vary from approximately 13 to 20 hours, depending on the conditions and the length of the stopover.

What is the shortest flight time from Amsterdam to Bangkok

The shortest flight time from Amsterdam to Bangkok is approximately 10 hours and 30 minutes. However, this depends on several factors such as the airline, flight route and weather conditions.

What determines the flight duration of an intercontinental flight?

Various factors play a role in determining the flight duration of an intercontinental flight. For example, the duration is influenced by the distance between the departure and arrival destination. In addition, the flight route chosen by the airline can influence the flight duration. Sometimes flights are diverted to avoid bad weather or air traffic, which can increase the duration.

Bad weather can also affect flight times by delaying or rerouting flights. In addition, the speed of the aircraft can affect the duration of the flight. Most commercial passenger aircraft flying at a speed of about 800-900 kilometers per hour.

Furthermore, air traffic can play a role in the duration of the flight, especially when there is heavy traffic at the airports or in the airspace. Finally, the number of stops will increase the flight duration, depending on the length of the stopover and the number of stops made.

Do jet streams and wind directions influence the flight time from Amsterdam to Bangkok?

How long is the flight to Thailand? This is determined, among other things, by jet streams and wind directions, which can influence the flight duration of aircraft. A jet stream is a powerful, narrow flow of air at a high altitude in the atmosphere. It is a type of wind that blows continuously, usually from west to east in the northern hemisphere and east to west in the southern hemisphere. Radiant currents are caused by large temperature differences between the poles and the equator, and between land and sea. Wind speeds can reach over 300 kilometers per hour and they affect the weather and flight performance of aircraft.

If an aircraft is flying in a jet stream moving in the same direction, the aircraft can take advantage of the extra speed and shorten the flight time. Conversely, an aircraft flying in a jet stream moving in the opposite direction may experience additional headwinds and may increase flight duration.

Wind directions can also affect flight duration. Headwinds can increase flight time because the aircraft experiences more drag, while tailwinds can shorten flight times because the aircraft experiences less drag and can fly faster.

Airlines take jet streams and wind directions into account when planning flight routes and calculating flight duration. By adjusting the route to take advantage of jet streams and wind directions, airlines can shorten flight times and save fuel.

Bangkok-Amsterdam-Bangkok: why does the return flight take longer than there?

Joseph Jongen has already written an article about this. The main factor that causes this time difference is not the rotation of the earth, as many people think, but the so-called jet stream. The earth rotates (on the equator) from west to east at a speed of 1600 kilometers per hour on its axis, but the layers of air rotate just as fast in the same direction as the earth.

The jet stream, which causes a considerable time difference, always prevails at an altitude varying between nine and ten kilometers and blows in an easterly direction. This stream is on average several thousand kilometers long, hundreds of kilometers wide and over one kilometer high. However, the jet stream is not always exactly at the same geographical height.

Airlines determine the most optimal route to their destination

Airlines use various methods to determine the optimal route to their final destination. First of all, the distance. Usually the shortest distance between departure and arrival airports is the most efficient route. Airlines use advanced software to calculate the distances between cities and airports to determine the most optimal route.

As mentioned earlier, weather conditions also have an influence. Airlines take into account turbulence, thunderstorms and high winds and try to avoid the route that may be affected by bad weather to ensure a smooth flight and avoid inconvenience to passengers. Furthermore, there are airspace restrictions in some parts of the world, such as military zones and restricted airspace. Airlines should consider these restrictions when planning their route and avoid them.

Fuel consumption also plays an important role in route planning. Airlines optimize the route to use as little fuel as possible. This means that the route is adjusted to take advantage of favorable wind directions and jet streams, and to avoid strong headwinds. Finally, the capacity of the aircraft is important. The aircraft type and maximum flight altitude are considered when planning the route. Airlines adjust the route to use the maximum capacity of the aircraft and fly as efficiently as possible.

By taking these factors into account, airlines can determine the optimal route to their final destination, so that the flight is as efficient, safe, fast and comfortable as possible. The question: How long is the flight to Thailand, has now been answered.

Non-stop or with a stopover from Amsterdam to Bangkok?

There are several airlines that offer flights from Amsterdam to Bangkok, some with stopovers and some without. There are two airlines that offer non-stop flights from Amsterdam to Bangkok, which are KLM and EVA Air. With THAI Airways you can fly directly from Brussels to Bangkok.

There are also airlines that offer stopover flights, such as Emirates, Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines and Etihad Airways. These stopovers can take place in different cities, such as Dubai, Doha, Istanbul or Abu Dhabi, depending on the airline and the specific flight route.

By plane to Thailand

To travel to Thailand you need a passport that is valid for at least six months from the day of arrival. For a stay of up to 30 days (currently 45 days temporarily) you can get a visa-free (visa exemption) entry upon arrival at the airport. You must apply for a tourist visa online if you want to stay in Thailand for longer than 30 or 45 days.

Sorry…but Thaiairway no longer flies directly to Thailand since May 2021 (via Germany and if you are unlucky you cannot make it through the checks that we experienced last year in May 2021)
    Greetings

Last summer (2022) Thai Airways flew directly from Brussels to Bangkok. I flew this route myself with TA. However, since last autumn this direct flight has been discontinued.

Fly via such an emirate. Six hours of flying, a few hours of rest (stretching legs) and another six hours of flying. More relaxed and often cheaper. And you see some other people at such an airport.

And how much cheaper is that?

      • Eric Donkaew says up

That is of course not easy to say. To give a guideline amount: think about 100, maybe 200 euros per return.

Often there is hardly any difference. Depends on when you fly, how much transfer time you find acceptable (the longer the cheaper), how far in advance you book, etc.
I am flying soon with Emirates, booked 6 weeks in advance, seat reservation in the front compartment of the A380, and have lost over 1200 euros.

My flight is scheduled in 2 weeks, direct from Amsterdam to Bangkok (KLM). If you book well in advance, it is still somewhat affordable. €1200 (return) versus €1800 if you booked it today. So it is worth booking months in advance.

Just back from Thailand, flown with Eva air, great .. return for 800 Euro.
