Questioner: Hansman

I read with great interest all messages regarding immigration; the rules can change quite often and my thanks to Ronny for his knowledge.

Yesterday I read the following in his answer to traveling back from NL to TH: "Besides the 100 000 Dollar COVID insurance that everyone must have, you will also have to provide proof of a 40 000/400 000 Out/In insurance."

Now I have been staying in Thailand for 5 years on a NON-O visa “based on supporting Thai wife” and I wondered whether this insurance rule is also valid in my case. I ask this because:

  1. i believe the 400KTHB/40KTH health insurance was valid for Non-OA only.
  2. in TH i only have in-house health insurance of 800.000 THB per event with an emergency of 10K THB. This insurance also covers admission/treatment due to Covid-19, but not against the mentioned 100K USD.

My question is: if I travel from NL to TH again before the end of these rules, am I still obliged to meet the aforementioned requirements of 400K THB / 40K THB and 100K USD for C-19 despite my current Thai health insurance?

– The requirement of the 40 000/400 000 Baht insurance is about a “Re-entry Retired”. Even if that “Re-entry” was issued on a year extension obtained by a Non-immigrant O. At least a requirement at the Thai embassy in The Hague. I don't know if Brussels also has that requirement because it is not mentioned there.

“When requesting for a COE, holders of a valid Re-entry Permit (Retirement) who wish to return to Thailand using the Re-entry Permit (Retirement), are required to submit a copy of health insurance policy which covers the length of stay in Thailand with no less than 40,000 THB coverage for out-patient treatment and no less than 400,000 THB for in-patient treatment.”

This requirement does not apply to a “Re-entry” (Thai Marriage). It also does not apply if you are going to apply for a Non-immigrant O Thai Marriage at the embassy.

 – The USD 100 COVID insurance requirement was actually introduced as a Corona measure and applies to everyone who enters Thailand. Regardless of whether this is with Visa Exemption, Visa or Re-entry.

If your Thai insurance does not meet that requirement, I fear that you will have to take out additional insurance that does meet it. But of course I don't decide on that.
