Some time ago I sent you a copy of my prostate cancer test and my stroke. Over time, I have experienced some unpleasant changes.
With regard to prostate cancer, I am sending you 2 pages from the urologist with the request that you tell me if you are aware of these medicines. Due to the very high costs, I have not yet been able to buy this injection.
Question to GP Maarten: Prostate cancer and side effects of medicines?
Now, at the beginning of this year, an elevated PSA value was found during an annual blood test, which shocked me quite a bit. In consultation with the doctor, it was decided to do an MRI scan at the Bkk hospital in Hua Hin
My name D. 173 cm tall, 63 years and 65 kilos. I have my PSA checked every year from 2013 and often during this period. In 2016 state hospital and 2019 Bangkok hospital, I had a biopsy done, I know, and no cancer was found here.
I have prostate cancer with bone metastases and have had 22 chemos. Stopped now, would like to go to our home in Thailand and I don't have much time left. I use the drugs Abstral 100 MI FENTANYL for sublingual and FENTANYL SANDOZ MATRIX PATCHES 37 UG. Now my question is, is there an alternative to these medicines in Thailand because I can go on holiday for 90 days and then I have to take a lot with me and I think it will cause problems at customs.
My three eldest brothers, ages 84, 82, and 76, have prostate cancer and I will probably develop prostate cancer too because of their prostate cancer.
Question to general practitioner Maarten: Prostate cancer, which procedure is an option for me?
About 2 years ago I went to a urologist in BKK because of a burning sensation when urinating; he diagnosed a urinary tract infection and gave me a course of antibiotics that actually helped. However, the burning sensation when urinating came back last year when I was on holiday in the Netherlands, the urologist here had an MRI scan made and a prostate biopsy done. This showed that according to the TNM classification I have cancer stage T3 and a Gleason score of 4+3=7.
An extremely unpleasant experience with Cigna health insurance (part 2 – conclusion)
What to do now, switching to another insurance was out of the question given my status as a cancer patient and my age (73), what remained was to remain uninsured.
You probably know them, the glossy brochures full of beautiful marketing slogans from the powerful insurance companies. Complete coverage for almost all calamities at low premiums, the payment in the event of damage is a piece of cake, etc... In practice, it is often a lot more difficult than the brochures promise, this is such a practical story.
Question to GP Maarten: Tumor in my prostate
Last blood and urine check early November 2019. Blood check again last week, everything OK except PSA now 12,2, so almost 2-fold in 3 months. Had an MRI made and found a tumor in the prostate of 1,5 cm against the inner wall.
Reader question: Are there any hospitals specialized in prostate cancer in Thailand?
I am 60 years old and have metastatic prostate cancer. Are there any hospitals specialized in prostate cancer in Thailand?
Treatment in Thailand of prostate cancer
A friend of mine has metastatic prostate cancer and has been treated with hormone injections for 2 years. This treatment is no longer sufficient and now the oncologist has also prescribed chemotherapy tablets. It concerns two drugs abiraterone (zytiga) and the drug xtomdi. Both resources are expensive, the latter is probably completely out of the question because of the high price. He has no health insurance and must pay for it himself. My question is, does anyone have experience with these medicines and where in Thailand can these medicines be obtained most cheaply?
'Man talk'
But I love to stroll in Thailand armed with my camera all alone through certain neighborhoods or streets where hardly any tourists come.
It has been known for some time that tomatoes (also tomato paste, sauce or juice) reduce the risk of prostate cancer to some extent. What is new is that carrots have the same effect and that only a small amount is involved, according to a study by the Vietnamese epidemiologist Dong Van Hoang.
Question to general practitioner Maarten: Urologist recommends robotic prostate surgery
I am 70 years old, 3 months a year in Thailand like now and healthy. Just suffer from high blood pressure, take Irbesartan and walk a nice distance every day to keep it under control. I have been sensitive to mild cystitis for some time and have taken PSA tests at the time because of the nagging pains. Three years ago it had risen from 5.6 to 8.2. The prostate felt good. I didn't want a biopsy and left it that way.
Researchers: Don't treat slow-growing prostate cancer
More and more studies show that men who do not have aggressive prostate cancer should not have it treated. However, regular checks are necessary.
Question to GP Maarten: New test for prostate cancer
I read on Thailand blog again a question / answer to / from doctor Maarten Vasbinder regarding prostate problem. On this subject I regularly come across questions from compatriots on this blog and that is why it may be useful to report on a new test that I read in the Dutch press this month, partly because PSA does not always indicate cancer but sometimes also indicates on enlargement or inflammation.
