Reader question: Book a plane ticket for a Schengen visa?
Dear readers,
My name is Albert, I am Belgian and for 4 years in a relationship with a Thai woman. I had a question regarding applying for a c-visa.
I'm done with most documents, but only booking a plane ticket... If the visa is refused, you've lost your money, right? Or how exactly does this work?
Can someone advise me?
Thank you in advance.
Albert
Dear Albert,
You can also take an option on a ticket for a Schengen visa. You must then state the travel dates, of course. That is how I have done it a few times. Do not know the rules in Belgium, according to this forum they seem to be a bit stricter than in the Netherlands. Also know this from acquaintances who had trouble getting a visa for Belgium. However - without the intention to advertise here -a very good friend of mine has been working for years at a travel agency in Bkk where she also arranges visas for Schengen countries, among others. She is very experienced in this work, I may say, and she usually manages to arrange a visa if it is necessary in the first authority has been rejected. If desired, I can put you in touch with her.

Albert,
Wait until the visa is granted and then book the plane ticket.

Albert,
My girlfriend came here last year and this year as well. I have never booked tickets in advance, I think the embassy also knows that you can lose your money if things go wrong.
She left for Thailand the day before yesterday and suddenly has all the papers to come back in November.
Best regards,
You only need to have a print screen of a booking.
This is enough for you.
It's just a formality that they want to see this.
All other papers are necessary.
So just find a flight and then make a print screen of it.
Add these.
Please note that you apply for the visa early.
We did it 3 weeks in advance and planned that we would go to the Netherlands. Luckily I was able to pick up the visa on Thursday and then booked directly to Emirates ticket and flew on Monday.
Tickets were proportionately more expensive. But everything turned out fine.
ask your girlfriend to have a booking receipt made by a travel agent she knows, most do, if you also book the flight with them afterwards. that's how it's always worked for me
good luck
hello mate
it's very simple
You only need to provide a statement stating that you will purchase a return ticket.
She submits her application and, if it is in order, receives a telephone call informing her that she is eligible for a visa if she can present a return plane ticket.
At that moment you buy her plane ticket and transfer it to her.
She goes to the embassy or consulate and upon presentation of the return ticket, she receives her passport back with her visa.
And it's done.
Done 2 times already.
hugo, and everyone else, thanks for the tips and advice. At least now I know how and what. thanks again.
Moderator: I think you've told that story more than 10 times. An eleventh time is really too much.
The EU is not not, they also know that you should not spend too much money on foreigners because that would simply not be fair, among other things. For example, a reservation/option on an airline ticket is sufficient, which may well be a free reservation that automatically expires after a few days or weeks. You can ask various airlines for such a reservation by telephone or e-mail. However, an embassy can request to show a flight ticket when the visa is issued, but that is not a standard thing.
This avoidance of unnecessarily incurring costs is also reflected in medical travel insurance, which you must arrange in advance, but if the visa is rejected, the insurer must reimburse the costs (minus a small amount of administration costs), insurers who Failure to do so does not meet the requirements of the Visa Code and is therefore by definition not accepted by the embassy.
You can also find this answer on page 9 of the Schengen visa file here on the blog (left menu):
Do I have to buy a flight ticket in advance or is a reservation sufficient?
Never buy a ticket until you get the visa! Call an airline of yours
choice (e.g. China Airlines, Eva Airlines, or Thai Airways) and request an option on a trip.
You can then take an option/reservation free of charge or at a low cost. This expires
automatically after a few weeks if you do not make a final booking and pay.
A valid option or reservation is sufficient to apply for a visa. When allocating the
visa, you only make the final booking and payment of the ticket.

'The EU is not not' = 'The EU is not crazy'
Excuse.
Also know that you don't necessarily have to fly to Zaventem. If another airport, for example across the border in the Netherlands or Germany, suits you better, your love may also cross the border there. Of course you will be waiting for her with open arms and mobile phone in your pocket and you will travel together to your destination.
