How is the situation in Pattaya/Jomtien at the moment?
Dear readers,
I'm going to do the Phuket Sandbox in a week and then travel on to Pattaya/Jomtien. Can someone tell me what the situation is there now? Is everything open? Can you go to a bar for a beer? Are the massage parlors open? All restaurants open? Can you just go to the beach?
Is it pleasantly busy?
Regards,
Jan

Dear Jan,
I'm going to Jomtien tomorrow.
I can let you know here what I find.
Regards,
René
Hi Jan.
The status at the moment is that the beach is open. The few restaurants that are left are open until 22:00 or 23:00 PM. No alcohol after 21pm. You must show a recent test certificate or be tested on site at any restaurant that sells alcohol. The massage parlors are open
Bars are closed if they don't sell food, so most bars now also sell some food. Since yesterday no more drinks after 9 o'clock, but they are allowed to be open until 11 o'clock. Furthermore, I have not had to show a test certificate anywhere. I don't know where Paul is going, haven't asked me for it yet. The beach on jomtien is open as usual but this week it's jet ski world cup. To bad for me. So most of it is open but it's not too busy. John.
Show recent test evidence? Dear Paul, I think you are sitting behind your computer in the Netherlands… I have been in Pattaya for over a month now and I eat twice a day in a restaurant. Have never, but never, had to show a test certificate. Don't talk nonsense man.
I've been there for a month now. Witherspoons bv or SportsLounge.
Seen with my own eyes that people are being sent away. And yes. And there are also plenty who don't ask for it
You cannot enter Hungry Hippo Soi Bukhao. Neither does Sutus court. Neither is Cheap Charlies. There are many where you have to submit a test certificate, but of course there are also where they don't ask anything.
That's right. I eat and drink where they don't ask. It selects automatically.
Why do you first write that it is asked at every restaurant….
As always in Thailand there are rules that are not followed. Some bars have received extra attention and this is particularly the case in soi buakow. Acquaintances of mine have been refused there due to lack of test certificates. The necessary infections had apparently taken place there or were known for civil disobedience. The restaurants have wider options for opening and drinks, hence the creative hassle with selling sandwiches in bars as a surrogate restaurant. But as soon as there is no control, it's business as usual and people do what they think is right. Be careful that you do not get infected there, because then you will not have your birthday with the treatment of foreigners in this area.
Currently sitting on the beach in Jomtien, just open but quiet.
Many restaurants are open as usual, do measure temperature upon entry but do not have to show any test certificates or anything, I don't know where that nonsense story comes from.
You can also get a beer in a restaurant without any problems.
Many bars are also open, some busy and alcohol is also served normally.
Everything closes on time, around ten o'clock.
When you come you will see it all for yourself, weather is fine.
Hi Jan,
I stay in jomtien, a bit quieter than pattata beach.
For the time being, there are still enough things open to make it a great holiday.
But we can't ignore it, situations can change daily. From what I understand, high number of infections in Pattaya. So no guarantee that it will be the same next week.
Regards, Toon
I think this is an honest and faithful response. Here and there a test is done or requested and it is valid for 3 days. Still great to be here now!
On YouTube you can find videos that are uploaded daily by
walkers in Pattaya: these are walks of more than an hour.
You get a very good picture of how the situation is now, what is open and exactly where:
Beach Road, Soi Bua Khao etc.

Maybe a stupid question, but is wearing a facemask also mandatory on the beach?
And what is it in practice?
As soon as you leave your home in Thailand, wearing a face mask is mandatory. Public areas, including the beach, are no exception. You are usually also not thanked if you go outdoors without a mask. The vast majority of people here adhere to this rule. Exceptions aside and of course the mask can be taken off when eating or drinking.
No one wears a face mask on the beach. On the boulevard 40%. I only wear one when I go into 7/11.
The police do not check for face masks.
Just got back... I'm not a bar person, but drinking a beer is always possible... It was pleasantly busy during the holidays, I'm afraid that some stricter measures will be taken until January 20th...
Everything Pattaya I think is a good YouTuber for Pattaya… Take a look at that…
What negative stories from the Netherlands! You can talk about it, email, write if you've been there. And not from acquaintances, friends who have heard something. It is great here,…. But otherwise. Not so busy, but everything is open. Netherlands in busy?? Street masks? Kalverstraat is busy during the day. Well everyone here face masks and bad? Weather is fine, beaches are open, enough water in the pools, vans drive back and forth, go and see then you know!!!
Doesn't the proverb say, "The best helmsmen are ashore?"
