A special unit of the police and immigration service has investigated a number of places in Pattaya. A number of condos, apartments and hotels where many foreigners stay were visited.

These came from some very different countries such as Cameroon, Nigeria, India, Uganda, England, Uzbekistan and several other areas. Eighteen people were arrested on suspicion of criminal offenses, drugs, special “tobacco”, ATM skimmers, fraudsters and nine more people with a “visa overstay”.

Surachet, leader of this team, said that these surveys will be conducted on a regular basis. He advised the owners of condos and hotels to screen foreigners better and not to allow “overstayers”!

I think most foreigners with overstay can be found in their girlfriend's house.

It's about time this happened. In the Netherlands this has been happening since time immemorial. Is a necessity that yields a lot of criminal information. Contaminated premises housing illegal immigrants. Good to see the police doing their job well.

If immigration automation were to work properly, every foreigner's place of residence and, if necessary, an overstay should be visible at the touch of a button. After all, the TM30 form is for the place of residence. Now I recently read that in Phuket, for example, almost half of the hotels do not have a hotel permit. It seems to me that they are reporting a TM30. There will be many people staying in Thailand with an overstay, who will only be caught during an accidental check or when leaving the country.
The fact that hotel and condo owners are asked to screen better shows that the TM30 report is nothing.
