Why is there a price difference in airline tickets to, for example, Bangkok? One moment you're looking for a plane ticket and find a relatively cheap rate. If you look a few days later, you 'suddenly' pay € 100 more. Airline ticket provider Cheaptickets.nl explains why airfare prices fluctuate.

Contrary to popular belief, cookies do not affect the flight price. The price difference has to do with the so-called booking classes in which the airline offers the tickets. This has nothing to do with the service classes, such as Economy Class of Business Class.

The booking classes are, as it were, 'groups' of seats that they want to sell for a certain price. The airline naturally wants to have the plane as full as possible, with satisfied customers and they want to earn money. If they were to set a fixed price, they would be less likely to fill the entire plane (there will always be people who think the price is too high and will never book!).

How booking classes work

Each booking class therefore has its own price. It can therefore be cheaper or more expensive than another class. If a flight is still far away, cheaper seats are offered. After all, the airline still has enough time to fill the flight to Thailand. The closer the departure date gets, the more expensive it becomes. If the airline still has many seats available at the last minute, the price will be reduced to at least fill the flight. Or if they have not yet reached their target, they increase the price.

It is all based on supply and demand. The airlines know when it is high season and raise prices. This compensates for the lower prices in the low season, when it is more difficult to fill flights.

Wow, that price!

Do you sometimes find yourself looking for a flight and thinking: are they asking that much for a ticket? There are several reasons for this, one of which has already been mentioned above (different booking classes). Secondly, your search may have already been performed once before (the year before, for example). That last time someone bought a ticket for that (for you absurd) price. Everyone has a different budget, not everyone goes for the cheapest tickets! So what does our search system think: I'm offering this ticket price again in this region, because there's apparently a demand for it.

It is also possible that the rules of the search system determine that you will see a higher price because the cheaper booking class has been removed by the airline, even if you check the flight a day later. Prices fluctuate continuously. Just like the cost of getting the plane in the air. For example, the price of fuel can skyrocket. Whether the airport taxes are increased.

The price of a ticket is therefore determined by quite a few factors. What you should always think is; how much do I think my ticket is worth? What am I willing to spare for this dream vacation or this one business trips? Many will say 'I just want the cheapest price'. Of course we also want that for our daily shopping… So how much value do you attach to the service or comfort of an airline? Base your choice on that.

Of course I give ticket sellers like the above their income, but I personally still don't understand why you wouldn't book directly with an airline. In terms of price, this generally makes no difference, bottom line, and in the event of problems/changes, etc., you do business directly with that company instead of being referred back to the seller/intermediary. But maybe someone can convince me otherwise?

I think it will be the convenience of 'all' providers under 1 button.
Personally, I always book trips to Thailand directly with Singapore Air, but for other flights I look on skyscanner and if I have found something, I just contact the airline directly.

The air travel websites are the brush sellers from the old Disney cartoons.
They will do anything to get you a brush.
I wouldn't dare say whether all the tricks are successful, but according to the software vendors, they probably are.

Anyway, these are of course only brush sellers, who will soon be replaced by a sales program.

all sellers receive compensation for selling a product. Even if it goes through a computer, you pay a (heavy) booking fee or file costs.
The only advantage you can have is if the selling party is affiliated with the guarantee fund and he or the airline goes bankrupt, you will not lose your money.

However…… loose tickets are not covered by the guarantee fund (SGR)…..

I always look at the various sites myself, but I often end up at the site of the company itself and
then it turns out that the prices there are the same as the price of the various offer sites.
It also often turns out that the different comparison sites use almost the same prices ergo
just a matter of society sets the price , indeed by the factors mentioned above.
December – January takes public holidays and Chinese New Year cheaper than until May and then the summer months skyrocket again and then Autumn cheaper again. Have been flying to the Far East since 1998 and this keeps repeating itself.

Our experience in searching and booking. Every time you return to a company for the flight it has become more expensive. They remember your details and keep adding euros to it. ???Our tip: once you have decided which one to use. If you want to fly, do this with another tablet, mobile phone or PC. Then suddenly the cheaper price counts again. This year we saved 256 euros for 2 people, which is worth it.

henjo says that when you look for a particular flight again, the price is often higher than the first time. His advice is: use another PC or tablet for the second and third search.
Henro, I'm not an expert but I don't think the device gives a message that it has been searched before but the so-called ips, so computer CONNECTION address is that you have to change. Simply put: do not log in again at home, but at work, for example.

Agree, you need a different IP address, for example from the mobile phone if you have searched through your landline modem and encounter the strange phenomenon. By the way, I once met an expert in this field at a party of the Canadian ambassador, he sold these types of systems, who told me that it is already happening. this was 2 years ago. I have just booked two KLM tickets for 52000 baht for two months, April - June, but what bums me out are the extras for seats. Understand it for extra leg room, but on economy 60 euros extra for a lower seat number makes no sense. And for my platinum KLM status I have a comfort seat for free, my wife pays 130 euros extra per flight for what is 10 cm extra leg space, it's crazy!

I like a good price, but if it is an airline that I don't really like flying with, I will go for the more expensive option. No Egyptian, Ukrainian, Russian for me. Switching is not an issue for me because I am used to it for my work. This is more of a plus because I find going to Bangkok to be a long time with all those people crowded together. I regularly check Skyscanner plus its many 'sisters' and of course Thailandblog. For example, I was able to book a business class ticket at Qatar (do it luxuriously for once) during the promotion about 10 days ago. What you should always pay close attention to is that you should carefully look at 'other flights for the same price'. This often makes a difference in transfer time. I expected an opening offer from Jet but I haven't seen it yet. But their partner may not allow that on this route.

Sorry, but this story gives a somewhat wrong picture. As I read it says that there may be a difference in the price of the different classes.
It's a little different. The price differences between the different classes are just there. Originated from the need to sell cheaper flights -> economy class or even more comfortable -> first class. Business class was the “normal” fare.
These are the normal causes for significant price differences in an aircraft.
And yet there are price differences in the economy prices. These are subject to various conditions. A normal economy fare without restrictions costs almost as much as a business class fare. But an offer where you fly within a certain period and season with restrictions on the weight of the luggage can be significantly lower than the normal rate. Then it also depends on how the competition is on a particular route.
Finally, once again the poorly chosen term booking class. This only concerns: First, Business or Economy Class (or other titles such as Royal, Premium or other titles). This rightly concerns completely different seating and total packages.

    • Jack S says up

In addition…the terms “classes of service” and “booking classes” are being used interchangeably here as far as I know. At the company where I worked for 30 years, these concepts were also maintained, with the difference that service classes were only discussed when the service was actually discussed. At booking classes we talked about my earlier explanation.
What the writer was talking about were the booking quotas, that's how they were named at my company, where a number or a group of seats are indeed purchased.

if you take a look at the basic prices you will see that most of the money is spent on airport taxes and the like
and that the ticket price is only a few hundred euros.

  9. Mister BP says up

The story is correct. Still, I have experience with air Berlin and Emirates, that they were more expensive an hour later on the same computer. But when I remove the cookies I saw the original price again. It only saved a few tens, but still! My experience is that booking with the airline is usually the cheapest. I always go in July, because I work in education and then you usually have the main prize; especially if you want to fly direct.

Flying cheap depends on how you look at it
I also tried to fly cheaply with a stopover. Book a room once in Dubai to get through the night. It also costs us 1 dollars. Also a flight via London on the way out. Wait 75 hours on the way back. Wait 3 hours while you are at Schiphol. have already seen and can no longer take the train back, so extra costs. Now booked a direct flight again, which is 8 euros per person more than a flight with an intermediate stop. But ultimately cheaper than the other options.

That is where there is difference in the provider
Also take a look at gata1.nl
It is always cheap and good experiences with it
    There it saves 200 euros
For a ticket and return tickets

    • Cornelis says up

Raijmond, I don't think that is correct that it makes a difference of 200 euros. It is simply unrealistic to expect that with the provider you mention - or with any provider - you will pay less than 200 euros less for a return trip to Bangkok with the same company, on the same days and hours, via the same route and under the same ticket conditions. for example, directly with the airline in question. The margins in this industry are not that big anymore………….
