KLM again deep in the red

AirFrance-KLM suffered a loss of 559 million euros in the first quarter of this year. The loss is slightly smaller than in the same period last year, when the deficit reached 608 million euros.

The airline's turnover increased by 1,8 percent to 5,66 billion euros.

The continuing pressure on prices means that the cheaper fuel bill has hardly any effect. In the first months of the year, AirFrance-KLM spent 1,5 billion euros on fuel, 5 percent less than in 2014. For this year as a whole, the airline expects a kerosene bill of 6,6 billion euros.

Transavia transported 12 percent more passengers, but all in all, this AirFrance-KLM low-cost airline also ended up in the red.

AirFrance-KLM does not make predictions for this year. The focus is on cost savings and negotiations are still under way with the trade unions in both France and the Netherlands. Net debt must be reduced from EUR 5,3 billion to EUR 4,4 billion by the end of this year.

It is a pity, a great pity for KLM to get carried away with Air France,
But with negative equity, which is (expected) to rise to 1 billion = 1000 million this year, someone will still pull the plug.

That means they only have 8 months left to start "turning" positive again
I really hope so for them, but as long as the salaries of pilots for an Air France Airbus A380, B777 and A330 are the highest in the world and the operational costs are 20% higher than Turkiche Airways, it will not work. It will go in the same direction as with Sabena. Pilots will not budge and go on strike.

As it stands now and I hope not, but they won't make it to 100 years.

    A sad Nico

Very bad numbers. Didn't they predict black numbers for this year last year? I don't know how much they have included as additional write-offs and safety nets for redundancies, etc. KLM will probably have to cut the number of routes and aircraft, just like Malysian, Thai and Kenya Airways (KLM is a shareholder). Only fly routes where they can make a profit. Or there will be a takeover by Delta. It will be quite exciting in Amstelveen and Paris.
