Dear Ronnie,

Suppose you have a passport with a stamp Extension of stay for 1 year. You lose that passport or it gets stolen during that year or you have to renew your passport because it is full and you have to apply for a new one in Belgium.

What do you have to do to still be able to use that extension of stay?

Regards,

Bob

Dear Bob,

In case of lost or stolen passport, it will depend somewhat on the willingness of immigration, I think, but normally you can get it back.

There is a “Lost or Stolen Passport Form” at Immigration that you must complete to get your “Extension” back. See https://www.immigration.go.th/download/ See No. 32.

If that does not work, you will have to start everything all over again, ie first get a new Non-immigrant visa.

If you go to Belgium for a new passport because the old one is full or almost expired and the old one still has a valid annual extension (don't forget re-enrty), then it is quite simple.

You apply for a new passport in Belgium.

Request that the year extension, visa details and “re-enrty” in the old passport are not invalidated and then ask for the old passport to be returned.

When you arrive in Thailand you show both passports. The new passport will then be stamped with the “Arrival” stamp with the end date of your annual extension that is stated in your old passport.

Afterwards, go to your local immigration office and ask to transfer the year extension from your old passport to your new passport.

Once that has happened, you no longer need the old passport. Can you deliver it to your municipality next time?
