Dear Ronnie,

We have recently retired and want to go to Thailand for 2020 months at the beginning of January 4. So we need a visa. But which type of visa is the most convenient for us to arrange?

We want to go around January 4 and back to the Netherlands at the end of April. We have a private condo in Jomtien. At the end of the year 2020, we also plan to go for 6 months in mid-October. Back to the Netherlands in mid-April 2021.

Thanks for your advices.

Greetings,

Harry a Rene

Dear Harry and Rene,

Given that I own my own condo, I think it is also the intention to stay in Thailand for a longer period of time in the future. I think it would be best to work with an annual extension. This way you do not have to get a new visa at the embassy every time you leave for Thailand.

Apply for a Non-immigrant “O” Single entry at the embassy or consulate before you leave for Thailand in January 2020. This will give you a residence period of 90 days upon entry.

The cost of such a visa is 70 Euro. You can then extend that period of residence for one year at immigration. Costs 1900 Baht. You can then repeat that year extension every year.

You can read more details about renewal here.

Be sure to read the comments as well. Important is, among other things, “Re-entry, 90 days notice and possibly the “Dependent” method. Of course, don't forget the TM30 notification upon arrival at your address
